Wikipedia's standard now is to use the revealed Soviet/Russian actual designations

Since the early 1990s, much more material has become available on the Soviet Armed Forces. The actual Soviet designations of things like the SA-2 are now freely available, so the WP standard is to use S-75 rather than the DOD designation. Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 04:05, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, due to Northern Irish and other feelings, WP also has rule on how Londonderry is referred to in the encyclopedia - WP:DERRY, which you can take a look at should you wish. Like Queen's Regulations, the various WP:PILLARS and WP:DERRY etc are handy to know. Buckshot06 (talk) 04:08, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice. But I'll stick with the widely used convention followed throughout the Western military hemisphere of referring to SAMs and aircraft by their NATO reporting names. They mean something more to experts than a Russian-derived xyz123 number salad! Also, referring to Londonderry by the ethnic Gaelic name is insulting to the majority Loyalist community in NI and panders to Sinn Fein and the PIRA/INLA, so I'll stick with Londonderry thanks.TopGun1066 (talk) 09:17, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Discretionary sanctions notification

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Troubles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Also the Thomas McMahon (Irish republican)‎ article, as well as other Troubles related articles, is under a 1-revert-restriction, meaning no more than 1 revert in a 24 hour period. For maximum transparency your edit was a revert. FDW777 (talk) 10:06, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

November 2020

Information icon Hi TopGun1066! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. TopGun1066 (talk) 13:50, 16 November 2020 (UTC)You also wrote 10:08, 16 November 2020‎ FDW777 talk contribs‎ 6,560 bytes -111‎ rv. MOS:TERRORIST, in addition he was not convicted under any "terrorism" legislation since none existed in the Republic of Ireland at the time of his conviction.[reply]

These are weasel words. McMahon is a terrorist because he committed an act of terrorism, despite the legislation not being in place. Under your definition the Nazis didn't commit any war crimes because they did it before the Nuremberg Trials began.

I knew editors on Wikipedia were left-wing and anti-establishment, but this is a step too far.

Topic ban

Notice that you are now subject to an arbitration enforcement sanction

The following sanction now applies to you:

You are indefinitely topic banned from The Troubles, Irish Nationalism and British Nationalism in relation to Ireland, broadly construed.

You have been sanctioned in response to this report at WP:Arbitration Enforcement: [1]

This sanction is imposed in my capacity as an uninvolved administrator under the authority of the Arbitration Committee's decision at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/The Troubles#Final decision and, if applicable, the procedure described at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Discretionary sanctions. This sanction has been recorded in the log of sanctions. If the sanction includes a ban, please read the banning policy to ensure you understand what this means. If you do not comply with this sanction, you may be blocked for an extended period, by way of enforcement of this sanction—and you may also be made subject to further sanctions.

You may appeal this sanction using the process described here. I recommend that you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template if you wish to submit an appeal to the arbitration enforcement noticeboard. You may also appeal directly to me (on my talk page), before or instead of appealing to the noticeboard. Even if you appeal this sanction, you remain bound by it until you are notified by an uninvolved administrator that the appeal has been successful. You are also free to contact me on my talk page if anything of the above is unclear to you. ~Awilley (talk) 22:58, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that the restriction above prohibits you from making any edits related to The Troubles, Irish Nationalism, etc., anywhere on Wikipedia. Please take the time to follow the links in the template above so you don't mess up and get yourself blocked from editing altogether. ~Awilley (talk) 23:00, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
