macOS Monterey (version 12) will be the 18th major release of macOS, Apple's desktop operating system for Macintosh computers. The successor to macOS Big Sur, it was announced at WWDC 2021 on June 7, 2021 and is expected to be released later in 2021.[2][3][4] A beta version of macOS Monterey was released to developers registered with Apple Developer Center on June 7, 2021.[5]

Some of the major features showcased during the WWDC keynote include enhancements to Continuity, Apple’s technology for seamless interaction among macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS devices, a redesigned Safari browser, support for receiving AirPlay content from iOS and iPadOS devices, and more.

System requirements

As with every new release of macOS, some older hardware will not be able to get the new version.[6] The following hardware is needed to run the macOS Monterey.
