I'm trying to figure out if it's a reasonable step to put in an NPOV notice now
[edit]The offending paragraph has been discussed for a while without changes. A pretty clear case was made that the paragraph was not NPOV. IMNSHO, it should have been changed already (or, better yet, deleted).
I added a personal slant to it giving anecdotal evidence to the contrary and asserting sufficient knowledge to make contrary (limited) authoritative opinions despite not being a mental health care professional. Should I wait longer (than effectively zero time) for replies before putting in an NPOV?
Again, as I said, the case appeared to have been sufficiently made before I intervened. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kencomer (talk • contribs) 14:59, 27 January 2007 (UTC).Kencomer 15:00, 27 January 2007 (UTC) (I always have to put it in unsigned before I remember to sign it. Duh.)
Please can you help me
[edit]I'm quite new to Wikipedia and I saw you on the Adopt-a-User list and you said you you were happy to help. So anyway I have a few questions. 1st how do you get those information boxes on your user page (like on yours it say you live in Great Britain and you like to eat fries, or chips) and 2nd when I was looking at the recent changes i noticed that before the persons name it has a number in braquets, with either a '+' or a '-'and the things with a '+' are green and the things with a'-' are red. I was wondering what are these numbers. Neel Radhakrishnan 17:32, 27 January 2007 (UTC).
Re Carillion Rail and your use of VP: (i) I think if you look at Carillion Rail's website their head office is now in Wolverhampton (ii) Network Rail announced in October 2003 that they were taking maintenance in-house. Please reconsider
Redirects
[edit]Generally when creating a multi-word page with various capitalizations. Is it common practice to just go through creating new pages with different capitalizations and redirecting them to the main page? SherwinA 19:05, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Request for Help
[edit]Thanks for responding to my {helpme}. Only with USER ID CME GBM, but on every computer I've tried, I get an error message after I login and click on the EDIT THIS PAGE tab. I just clicked on the one on this page and the error box reads:
- You have chosen to open index.php which is a PHP file from http://en.wikipedia.org. Do you want to Open it or Save to Disk?
- When I click OPEN, I'm supposed to choose a Windows application with which it will open index.php
- When I click Save to Disk, it does just that. The following is a listing of that file:
[Process] Type=Edit text Engine=MediaWiki Script=http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php Server=http://en.wikipedia.org Path=/w Special namespace=Special
[File] Extension=wiki URL=http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Tellyaddict&action=edit&internaledit=true
2. If I click on the [Edit Section] "button" at the beginning of a section, everything proceeds normally. But clicking on Edit this Page tab brings up the error box described. 3. Going to a different PC makes no difference. 4. Using a different User Name makes ALL the difference and this react normally. Therefore, I believe something is amiss with my User Name data at the server level.
I'm grateful for your willingness to help me. Thanks. CME GBM 20:42, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Check User
[edit]Someone's doing a check user on me (shown here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Mykungfu). What should I do? I am DEFINATELY not the vandal. And, should I expect an apology from the user(s) who has/have undergone a check user when the results come back negative? Do the check user results show my IP? Thanks. Real96 01:27, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks!
[edit]Sorry for the late response! I have been kind of busy. Let's get started! Do you have AOL instant messenger or MSN messenger or anything?

Adoption
[edit]Hello would you be intrested in adopting me for a short period of time? Retiono Virginian 13:55, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Re: Okay then. You have now officially adopted me for a few months. Add the userbox to your page. Retiono Virginian 14:03, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Re: Since you are my adoptee you should leave some comments about my contributions and how I can improve; here,[1]
Re: wow. Watch the temper. I didn't say you have to leave comments on my editor review. Plus I'am doing it for personal improvement. I have no intention of becoming an admin. Retiono Virginian 16:43, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
umm....?
Great idea
[edit]I've just had some crazy idea about making Wikipedia into a online country. It has 3 million inhabitants, with laws (policies), voting dicussions, being a gigantic community already. I think thats a great (but crazy) idea. Retiono Virginian 17:09, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Re: I meant. That wikipedia is a gigantic community, as it has about 3 million users, being very famous too, and it is so big. It could be an online country. Retiono Virginian 17:12, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Re: Nevermind about that community thing. Sorry I feel a little crazy today, and my main point was about Wikipedia becoming an Online Country. Retiono Virginian 17:17, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Amazing fact

Hi Again
[edit]Hi again. Did you know that under the new definition of planet Earth, Mars, Mercury, Venus, and Pluto aren't real planets? Only the gas giants are now.
Red Rose720 14:29, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi. When you list vandals at AIV, if it's an IP vandal, make sure you list it as such by using {{IPvandal|xx.xx.xx.xx}}. It gives the admins slightly different links from {{vandal|username}}, which is used for registered accounts. Great job fighting vandalism! MKoltnow 17:00, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
WP:AIV
[edit]Hi. Before you list someone at AIV, try giving them a warning first. If they haven't had a warning in a month but they have a lot on their page, you should still give them one as it may be a different person. Keep this in mind while you're vandal hunting in the future :)--Wizardman 17:35, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, also keep in mind that your "new message" of a test4 or similar warning will not appear until the person moves to or edits another page. If they edit again after the timestamp on test4 they are a good candidate for WP:AIV. I think the last two you posted there stopped vandalizing (at least temporarily) right after your warnings. In any case, thanks for your strong antivandalism work. Kaisershatner 17:26, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- 209.204.112.73 is an example. You reported their vandalism but no test4 first. It's a school ip and the last vandalism was hours ago- maybe a different user. I would warn them first before posting at WP:AIV and I would also encourage you to rollback/revert their vandalism before posting them. Kaisershatner 17:51, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm going to concur with what's been said above. I've just noticed a second user that you've reported today that hasn't yet vandalized since the final warning. Please report the user AFTER they edit past their final warning. Don't report them to AIV at the same time you're issuing the test4 final warning, Metros232 18:52, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Out of line
[edit]Your comments on my talk page were completely out of line. You clearly aren't familiar with the history of the Mykungfu case. I don't appreciate the accusation that I filed a checkuser request frivolously. | Mr. Darcy talk 20:38, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- And by the way, I've removed your comments from my talk page, because I found the question so offensive. | Mr. Darcy talk 20:41, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- I really didn't mean to offend you it's just I voiced my opinion. Tellyaddict 16:26, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you want to avoid offending users in this way in the future, then make sure you look into the history of the case at hand. I take my responsibilities as an admin seriously and don't use tools like checkuser unless I've got significant reason to believe we have a case of sockpuppetry. This was about more than a spelling error, and if you'd looked into the case, or simply asked me what other factors led me to file that request, you would have seen that it wasn't a frivolous filing. | Mr. Darcy talk 16:37, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
WHY AM I GETTING THESE MESSAGES?????

[edit]Telly, you had an open tag, so the rest of the article disappeared. I found the error and fixed it. --Daysleeper47 18:07, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- The last reference tag was not closed. Check the article history and will see what I did. It just needed a closing tag. Whenever you leave a tag open, it messes up the entire article. --Daysleeper47 18:11, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism issue
[edit]I noticed he copy-pasted a warning from you as well, as if you were warning yourself! He took them from his talk page, if you hadn't noticed. No big deal, it'll factor into his ban time if he doesn't settle down. Thanks for telling me and being polite when you thought I had placed the warning. RB972 21:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Proposed RFA Nomination
[edit]I'd wait until you've a better edit count in Wikipedia space. Voters can be quite picky, so you want to make every nomination count. The problem isn't so much Wikipedia talk, but Wikipedia:...For example, check out the WP:TFD, CFD, UCFD, MFD. Note that these are not polls, so you should say something useful with each vote. Xiner (talk, email) 17:31, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- Wow, that was fast (and a great step). One suggestion: you can just add your vote (keep, delete, rename) to the section name in the edit summary. It's faster. Anyway...Xiner (talk, email) 17:36, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the review. How many mainspace edits would you consider adequate? Xiner (talk, email) 19:34, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- I like frank opinions. I'd rather know about these things before an RFA than during, you know? I've been slacking off on mainspace edits, so I'm gonna work on that. Thanks for supporting my run. I may already have a nominator (some people frown on co-noms), but I'll surely call on you to post an early vote! Lemme know if you need any help for RfA. Xiner (talk, email) 19:47, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Why not take another look at your vote here. Either you meant to vote keep or you forgot a word. Savidan 04:06, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject:Appreciation
[edit]Hi there, I've proposed a new WikiProject which is in ways similar to the random smiley awards, it is called wikiproject appreciation and it is all about recognising users contributions, no matter how many, or how minor they are, aswell as to promote optimism on wikipedia. Because you are a good distributor of random smiley awards I though you might be interested in joining this project if and when it's created. I'll be creating templates and such and the whole project page if there are enough users willing to be active members and participate. for more detailed information please see here for more info. Also could you please reply on my talk page - cheers! Tellyaddict 18:49, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for the invite : )
- Just so you know, you added the request on an archive of my talk page. You may wish to check if any other of your notices were similarly posted. - jc37 11:40, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
