[edit]Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from public domain editions of Gray's Anatomy
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: Delete. As mentioned in the previous close, what links here on the actual template will generate the list of which articles use the template for those that might occasionally need this. Vegaswikian (talk) 22:28, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: This category places articles about anatomical organs (e.g. Abdominal aortic plexus) in inappropriate categories (e.g. Category:Wikipedia administration and Category:1858 books) which is the sort of anomaly that should be cleared up if we are to get category intersection working (again). It is hard to see how this type of categorization could be useful for navigation and it could lead to an article being in many (albeit hidden) categories. See related discussion Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 October 27#Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text CNX Anatomy & Physiology. DexDor (talk) 21:16, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- Delete not a defining aspect for the topics and grouping sourcing template are better organised outside of the content category system. SFB 00:06, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- Keep as hidden category - this category could be useful to those who want to update articles from old sources (e.g. for archaic language and more current information.) Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 07:03, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- I also see this as a valid solution, but still not a preferable one in my eyes. SFB 20:40, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Category:Members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: Delete. Vegaswikian (talk) 00:06, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: That a person (e.g. Pat Buchanan or Harry S. Truman) is/was a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans may be a fact appropriate to mention in that person's article, but in most/all cases being a member of the SCV is a WP:NON-DEFINING characteristic (e.g. it wouldn't be appropriate to mention it in the article lead). This sort of category contributes to the huge number of categories that some pages are in. It also means that categories such as Category:Secession crisis of 1860–1861 contain articles about people who weren't born until many years later. DexDor (talk) 21:04, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Category:Climate change denial

- The result of the discussion was: Merge. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:25, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Climate change denial to Category:Climate change skepticism
- Nominator's rationale: Merge. This appears to violate WP:OVERLAPCAT, in that everything in Category:Climate change denial could be in Category:Climate change skepticism and vice versa (so there isn't just large overlap, but practically complete overlap). In fact many/all of the people in the Category:Climate change skeptics would also fall in the Category:Climate change denial. As the skepticism is less inherently POV, the denial category should be merged into the skepticism category. Obsidi (talk) 19:33, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- Support merge to skepticism. It is a very narrow section of climate change skepticism that advocates the belief that climate does not change at all for any reason. SFB 00:08, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- I can understand your reason (it comes down to how you define "Climate change denial" of which there are multiple different definitions by different people, and depending on how you define it is either WP:OVERLAPCAT or WP:SMALLCAT ). --Obsidi (talk) 01:07, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Merge to Category:Naval and Maritime Academy graduates. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:24, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: We don't normally break down alumni categories by year of intake. Assuming these people graduated then the appropriate category for them is Category:Naval and Maritime Academy graduates. DexDor (talk) 18:52, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- Delete overly specific category, especially when the above parent isn't even making it into the double digits yet. SFB 20:42, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- Comment The reason this intake has been specifically mentioned is that because for the first time in History of the Sri Lanka Navy, two officers have been selected to command the Sri Lanka Navy. Nevertheless, this can be deleted as proposed by the nominator. Or perhaps the details of the Intake could be mentioned under one category "Naval and Maritime Academy graduates". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lalindadef (talk • contribs) 21:55, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Merge. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:22, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Badly named category with one member and no parents. DexDor (talk) 06:53, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- Support merge current scope is inappropriate and potentially misleading. SFB 00:09, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. Small community with just 1 entry. ...William 00:47, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Rename to Category:Bibliographies of subcultures. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:20, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Delete. Category far too broad to be meaningful. Star Log, Lfrankblam, Kirk Out (talk) 00:22, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- Keep - We have various bibliography categories. These are about a particular society. I don't follow why it's too broad. (This is an apparent corollary of an AfD of a page in this category, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bibliography of the Tonga people (Africa), where nom takes issue, in a way, with bibliography-type list articles on Wikipedia). --— Rhododendrites talk \\ 06:26, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
Keep- nom too brief to be meaningful. Oculi (talk) 13:05, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:Bibliographies of subcultures per RevelationDirect below. Oculi (talk) 02:23, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
Delete on Different GroundsRename Only the Bibliography of the Tonga people (Africa) article fits into this category. Everything else is a bibliography of a subculture. RevelationDirect (talk) 00:35, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- This is an argument for a rename, not delete. Oculi (talk) 11:57, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- Good point. Category:Bibliographies of subcultures would address my concern. RevelationDirect (talk) 10:58, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
