Broadcasted

The Wiktionary definition of Broadcasted states the use is sometimes proscribed, so it should not be used. The word also appears on Wikipedia:Lists_of_common_misspellings/B

Broadcasted appears in some dictionaries, but others, e.g. Chambers state "Sorry, no entries for Broadcasted were found".
Broadcast appears in all dictionaries, and should be used as COMMONALITY - "Wikipedia tries to find words that are common to all varieties of English".

A July 2022 search for Broadcast gave over 227,000 uses, compared with a search for Broadcasted which gave just 93.
Of these, 16 are redirects to "Broadcast" articles, 14 refer to a 2015 Canadian TV award and 5 relate to a 1924 cartoon. The rest are in quotations.

Valimai Boxoffice Update

Hi dear Arjayay,It is confirmed that VALIMAI has collected more than ₹234 Crores. The collections should be specifically mentioned and updated. There are plenty of valuable sources to prove that. The statement from Jatinder Singh of Pinkvilla is simply incorrect and irrelevant.

Change Box office Update est. ₹234 crore[a]

Dr Dobeaucoup

Hello. Before you keep editing this page, would you please let me finish it? You just caused me to waste one hour of work. Not appreciated. Dr Dobeaucoup (talk) 20:23, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dr Dobeaucoup I have no idea which page you are talking about, but no-one can cause you to "waste one hour of work". If there is an edit conflict, save your additions and then re-add them - Arjayay (talk) 20:28, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Prayagraj

English-language news media can also be very reliable sources. Due caution must be given to the possibility of bias in some, such as for nationalistic, religious or political reasons. However, major global sources are generally reliable, such as major authoritative English-language newspapers (examples: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Times of London) or wire services (examples: Reuters, Associated Press). Google News and Lexis-Nexis search results can provide a quick guide to the relative predominance of alternative names across the media as a whole, provided the search parameters are properly set, but as with all raw search numbers, they should be used with caution. Thus in various news channel such as The Washington Post( here is the link https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/05/06/india-social-media-covid-19/ ) and the BBC News too is addressing this city as Prayagraj. So its should be like Prayagraj, formally known as Allahabad as per the WP:COMMONNAME Curious man123 (talk) 12:39, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive edits

Hi @Arjayay: I’m Theoder2055. User:Sathyalingam is continuously making disruptive edits by removing content from List of highest-grossing Tamil films without any explanation. Not only for this page several pages he is making disruptive edits like Varisu, F3 (film) etc. I feel for now it’s better to block him from editing. What are you suggesting? Theoder2055 (talk) 12:01, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Mistakes

Hello @Arjayay:. You might have thought that the edits which I made to Aranmanai 3 was not constructive and changes which I made to Sulthan (2021 film) was done without providing a reliable source. But then I added the citation needed template. But still why you reverted it? Also in Aranmanai 3, I just tried to block a fake information stating that the film was a pan Indian film dubbed in different languages but actually its not a pan Indian film. That film was released only in Tamil. Sometimes I do make mistakes but it’s better to correct it so that I can rectify. I just want to try to make maximum to Wikipedia without vandalizing it.109.177.10.208 (talk) 19:18, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You do not add unsourced claims and think that adding the "citation needed" template absolves your responsibility for providing a source - if you don't have a source, don't add the claim. Please read and follow WP:BURDEN "All content must be verifiable. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material, and it is satisfied by providing an inline citation to a reliable source" - (the guidelines bold, not mine) - Arjayay (talk) 19:24, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

greetings

"do not use "non-standard terms like "decisive", "marginal" or "tactical"" in infoboxes" why is that FlamemanTN (talk) 12:35, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi FlamemanTN, as explained in my edit summary, it is as per the guidance at Template:Infobox military conflict. AFAIK this came about because certain partisan editors could not accept that "their" side had suffered a loss, so tried to hedge it round with qualifying/obfuscating phrases. For some of the discussion about this, please see Template talk:Infobox military conflict - which is where you should post any further questions - Arjayay (talk) 15:39, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Broadcast > Broadcasted correction.

CNN Newsroom (International TV program) edit that needs to be addressed and brought to your attention.

Dear Arjayay,

The reason I’m writing to you on your talk page is to address your edits in the CNN Newsroom (International TV program) page. As the writer of the paragraph can you please stop changing broadcasted to broadcast. Please also see the attached note I have to write everytime I edit it to the way how it was:

Edited Broadcast to Broadcasted again because they broadcasted the NATO Summit. Arjayay Please STOP changing this correction!

Thanks for your understanding and if their is anything you don’t understand or need clarification on, than please don’t hesitate to contact me on my talk page.

Regards, Ethan. Ethan0431 (talk) 02:35, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ethan0431 - at the top of this page there is a detailed, and extremely long-standing, explanation of why broadcasted is changed to broadcast in Wikipedia articles. Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 08:25, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Flora and Fauna in Dominican Republic

Collapsed long post by blocked user

Amphibians

Birds

Mammals

The mammals that lives in (the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Hispaniola).

Reptiles

Flora

Also extremely important are the rarely mentioned species of Pinguicula casabitoana (a carnivorous plant), Gonocalyx tetraptera, Gesneria sylvicola, Lyonia alaini and Myrcia saliana, as well as palo de viento (Didymopanax tremulus), jaiqui (Bumelia salicifolia), pino criciolio) (pino criciol) , sangre de pollo (Mecranium amigdalinum) and palo santo (Alpinia speciosa).

According to reports in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, the flora in this naturally protected area consists of 621 species of vascular plants, of which 153 are highly endemic to La Hispaniola. The most prominent endemic species of flora that abound in the area are Ebano Verde (green ebony), Magnolia pallescens, a highly endangered hardwood.

Plants

The plants that are found in (the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Hispaniola).

And Dominican Republic and Haiti are both located on the same island of Hispaniola, so I cannot see why you decide to remove this because of a silly thing and a not necessary thing or a because of a unnecessary reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.186.114.37 (talk) 16:24, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

I have suggested a move request for Naagin (2015 TV series) . Please give your opinion here [2] Pri2000 (talk) 10:13, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

erm... Is it appropriate notifying about RMs in such way? —usernamekiran (talk) 14:20, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi User:Usernamekiran firstly, I don't know what is wrong with your signature, but it doesn't seem right to me
As for your question - the relevant guideline is Wikipedia:Canvassing - in a nutshell "When notifying other editors of discussions, keep the number of notifications small, keep the message text neutral, and don't preselect recipients according to their established opinions. Be open!"
  1. the user notified 8 others - 8 seems a "small" number to me
  2. the message the user left is neutral - it asks for an opinion, without any attempt to persuade the reader
  3. I don't know how the user selected the recipients, but, ignoring the blocked user, they all have over 7,300 edits - which is probably how I would select recipients - experienced editors who generally know the basic policies and the need to keep to them
In summary, notifications are allowed, and, IMHO, this example seems to keep to the guidance - best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 14:39, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Correction - one of the recipients only has 3,401 edits - but that doesn't change my opinion - Arjayay (talk) 14:48, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
yes, thats why I didnt outright say it was canvassing Although, I was not sure how they selected the other editors.
Not sure what you mean about the signature. It is looking fine to me. —usernamekiran (talk) 15:24, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
