Languages

Plenty of secondary sources report the film to be a Tamil–Telugu bilingual. However, primary sources may not fully support this because of the following:

  1. This press release by producer from Sep 2021 writes, "our first ever Tamil Film" without any mention of Telugu
  2. In this interview to Telugu news channel in Dec 2021, the director calls it a "proper Tamil film" while maintaining ambiguity about Telugu version. Translated transcript for non-Telugu editors:

Director: This will be a proper Tamil film; predominantly Tamil film because..
Interviewer: It's a direct Telugu movie right?
Director: Uh..yeah..proper Tamil film but of course, it will be in Telugu also like we did Oopiri in Telugu and Tamil
Interviewer: Yes..so this will be the same
Director: This also but it will be predominantly Tamil because Vijay is one of the biggest stars [..] so we have to kind of first cater it to his strength, and then take it beyond.

@Kailash29792, DareshMohan, SP013, and Fylindfotberserk: Thoughts? since we've been in such situations before -- Ab207 (talk) 16:57, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I say we wait for more primary sources to come out for this film as of right now I think keeping it as Tamil only is fine. SP013 (talk) 18:23, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wait for more sources? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:59, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, one conclusive source would do. There was long discussion at Talk:Good Luck Sakhi#Languages for the same reason, and ultimately the film didn't even have a dubbed release in other languages -- Ab207 (talk) 19:26, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also consider these sources: here and here. Looks like the director has not made up his mind yet regarding any partial reshoots for Telugu. Also, given the fact that when Jilla was reshot in Telugu, Vijay had barely any dialogue (since he is not comfortable with the language) makes it unlikely to be in Telugu for now. The same author in the Cinestaan source contradicts himself here. With Oop6iri, the cast varied between the Telugu and Tamil versions slightly. I guess we have to wait for more updates. DareshMohan (talk) 19:39, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Understandable when filmmakers themselves are making contradictory remarks. Dhanush calls Vaathi / Sir as his "first Tamil/telugu bilingual", forgetting that VIP 2 was already a bilingual -- Ab207 (talk) 05:39, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe he meant 'proper? VIP 2 wasn't a proper bilingual though. Other than Dhanush, the other actors did not do retakes in Telugu since they were Tamil actors unlike in Vaathi / Sir. Dhanush would speak his lines in Telugu and Kajol would reply in Tamil. Even some Dhanush scenes were dubbed from Tamil. It probably had something to with not overwhelming Kajol lol.
Regarding Thalapathy 66, all the actors know Telugu beforehand except Vijay. The question is whether Vijay is going to go the extra mile and speak Telugu. Before Spyder, Mahesh Babu already knew Tamil. I don't think Vijay knows Telugu. DareshMohan (talk) 08:14, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I understand what Dhanush meant with his tweet. For Thalapathy 66, if the producer, director or any actor confirms that they shot in Telugu, I'd say we are good to go. Shouldn't be difficult for Vijay to speak Telugu if he intends to. Let's see -- Ab207 (talk) 09:37, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yup. Vijay has spoke Telugu here in 2006 and here in 2012 DareshMohan (talk) 23:16, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New Update

@Kailash29792, DareshMohan, Ab207, and Fylindfotberserk: So Vijay has just confirmed in his recent interview that the film is a Tamil film that will be dubbed into Telugu and not a bilingual. [1] (At the timestamp of 43:03). SP013 (talk) 01:24, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thumbs up icon Kailash29792 (talk) 05:10, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nice, this should clear the confusion -- Ab207 (talk) 05:58, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That seals the deal. Great. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:32, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Director

Wonder if he will be credited as Vamshi Paidipally. In Thozha, he was credited as Vamshi P. DareshMohan (talk) 06:28, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Be ready and credit accordingly. But I wonder what credit Srikanth will use to avoid confusion with his namesake. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:37, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Filming Principal photography was expected to commence in March 2022,[25] but ultimately did so on 6 April 2022 in Chennai.[26] The first schedule of the film which took place in a specially erected set at Sree Gokulam Film Studios in Chennai which ended on 15 April.[27][28] Initially, 75% of the shoot was planned to take place in Hyderabad but the production remained in Chennai upon Vijay's request to benefit the local FEFSI members.[29] Despite this, the Hyderabad schedule began on 3 May,[30] and concluded by 23 May.[31] Sreegokulamfilmstudios (talk) 12:17, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:30, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unofficial release date

Can an unofficial release date be added in the infobox? The cited source says "planned for a Pongal release in 2023" but there's no official announcement regarding that, making it borderline WP:CRYSTAL. Tried to remove it, only to be reverted by Sathyalingam without any explanation. Thoughts? (@Kailash29792, DareshMohan, Bovineboy2008, and Theoder2055:) -- Ab207 (talk) 11:29, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sathyalingam never responds to anyone. Revert his edits. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:46, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. Just wanted to be sure nevertheless. -- Ab207 (talk) 11:54, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ya it’s better to revert and also I suggest to mention the reason in his talk page for removing it so that only he can understand. Theoder2055 (talk) 12:30, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I think the discussion is moot now, since the latest poster carries the release info but the point still stands. Wikipedia is supposed to follow, not lead. -- Ab207 (talk) 13:04, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Telugu version producers

Thread retitled from "Something to note".

Pinging the editors that are active on this page the most. @Ab207, Kailash29792, DareshMohan, Bovineboy2008, and Theoder2055:: Now as we all know we had a talk earlier about the languages this film is being made in and we came to the consensus that it is being shot in Tamil only. However, as of today, after the Telugu poster release there is an odd discrepancy and that is that the producer list is different for the Telugu version. [2]. Notice how for the Telugu version we have PVP added to the list of producers. Now the update we had prior to filming was that it was being shot in Tamil only but do you guys think the makers have changed their mind to shooting in both languages? SP013 (talk) 16:27, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Highly unlikely, imv. If that's the case, this would or should have been announced by the makers themselves. -- Ab207 (talk) 16:43, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ab207 I guess we would have to wait for the CBFC certificate for the film in order to truly understand if it is shot in Telugu or if it is dubbed. SP013 (talk) 20:14, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No need to get confused. Remember what Vijay said in an interview here with Nelson in a Sun TV Channel. Vijay itself told that its a Tamil film. That means it’s shot only in Tamil. Hope so there will be no more confusions. That’s what also ::@Kailash29792: is also telling. Theoder2055 (talk) 17:57, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Theoder2055 Yes that is what I referenced at the end of my statement about that interview being prior to filming for this movie. However, we do not know yet if there was anything that changed post announcement since there are 2 extra producers being added to the film in the posters but they are only part of the "Telugu" poster and not the Tamil one. SP013 (talk) 20:13, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not adding this earlier I had just noticed this too. The billing block for the Tamil and Telugu versions seem to also be different and that particularly that the dialogue writers for both films are differentiated in the billing block. Pinging editors again. @Ab207, Kailash29792, DareshMohan, Bovineboy2008, and Theoder2055: SP013 (talk) 20:19, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Frustrating that when I retire from editing for the day this big announcement has to happen! Because following the title announcement I was unable to revert vandalism from my mobile. Coming back to the subject, I still think Vaarasudu is dubbed, and PVP might actually be presenting it, not producing it. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:28, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. We don't need to be concerned about PVP's producer credit if Telugu is a dubbed version. -- Ab207 (talk) 11:51, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Issues

Excuse me sir @Ravensfire: PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SOURCE https://www.latestly.com/socially/entertainment/south/varisu-to-release-on-january-12-2023-thalapathy-vijays-film-to-clash-with-prabhas-adipurush-4285568.html IS NOT ACTUALLY A RELIABLE SOURCE. It seems are no other pages which uses this LatestLY source. Are there any other pages which use this source? Also Pooja Hedge is not a part of this film so they need to mention actors who are confirmed to be a part of the film and not those who are not a part of this film should not be mentioned in Varisu#Casting section.

We never said Hegde joined the film. It only says she was considered, but then avoided in favour of Mandanna. --Kailash29792 (talk) 03:51, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say it's also a Telugu debut of his because of the director and production house! ChillaxIsCool (talk) 03:11, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
