Welcome to Novels WikiProject
Hi, and welcome to the Novels WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to fiction books often referred to as "Novels".
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated quite regularly. You can watch it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including there.
While you are updating your userpage, don't forget our userbox . - The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but other methods are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines / template outlines some things to include.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the members, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:09, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (Image:7205304.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:7205304.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks!
Thanks for my first Barnstar, man! It made my day! (Yeah, I've that dull a real life =P) UnaLaguna 20:37, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the barnstar! --Hemlock Martinis 06:35, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- While you may not see it this way, I think categorizing is the "dirty work" of Wikipedia. In my mind, the people that devote their editing primarily to categorization deserve a pat on the back---as the unsung heroes of WIkipedia! Arknascar44 19:29, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Suggestions
You may wish to take a look at Category:Wikipedia cleanup and/or Wikipedia:Requested articles, and select an article or two that you could work on. While barnstars, kindness and such are wonderful, it is important to keep in mind that the primary reason we are here is to write an encyclopedia, and gain some experience doing the drudgework - of course patrolling for vandalism is important too, but I suggest you get some significant experience in writing as well, even if you feel your talents and skills are stronger in other areas. KillerChihuahua?!? 15:35, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah...if I'll ever become an admin, I need to contribute to the project mainspace. Thanks, Arknascar44 18:50, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- It will help considerably if you focus on becoming a good Wikipedian, rather than on becoming an Admin. In my experience, good Wikipedians are good admins - those who merely wish to be admins either do not become admins, or make poor admins. KillerChihuahua?!? 21:16, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
(outdent) I suggest you remove the "spoiler warning" tags from Dogland. They are redundant with "Plot summary" and in any case, non-encyclopedic. Any article on a work of fiction will contain what is commonly described as "spoilers" - and Wikipedia is not a forum. If one looks up a work of fiction in an encyclopedia, one expects to see plot details. KillerChihuahua?!? 11:10, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was just wondering about that, but it was in the WikiProject Novels Article Template, so I wasn't sure what to do. But you're right; if you read the plot section of a novel article, you should expect to learn about the plot. Lol. Arknascar44 15:41, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, that was added on May 21[1] and promptly removed[2] - someone wasn't thinking that we're an encyclopedia, not a forum. You'll find things change around here; it is good to think for yourself on most issues - being careful not to violate policy! but still, common sense is a Good Thing. KillerChihuahua?!? 17:16, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
My userpage
I nicked the formatting and code from your userpage, changed the colours and a few other things, and came up with a considerably more different userpage for myself (my previous userpage was just... yeuch). Hopefully it does itself justice as a tribute to your page. UnaLaguna 20:34, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you left a third opinion for Talk:Need for Speed series characters#Spoiler warning and "fair use gallery" (good work, BTW), but you didn't remove the request from the list of Active disagreements. Feel free to do so once you've given an opinion; while it's by no means required, the usual edit summary is along the lines of "opinion given, 3 left".

Welcoming Users
Hello. Thank you for welcoming users! I just have a small suggestion. Please do not welcome users with names like User:PandaWhore, as they are violations of the username policy. Please remember to report such users to the administrators by posting a report on Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention. Thank you. Happy editing! Yours sincerely, Eddie 01:59, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Huh??!
What on earth gave you the idea that this was a "test edit?" If you don't like it in a table, fine - just say so. Maybe take out the extraneous pipes while you're at it. -Pete 19:00, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to know why you reverted another editor's edit on the above page and then warned them about vandalism? Not only was their edit not vandalism, it improved the article. I know, I started the article and was simply too lazy to take the time to put the information into a table. No information was changed or removed, so again why would you revert the edit (I have since reverted your revert) and warn an editor? Aboutmovies 19:05, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
My Apologies
To Aboutmovies and Pete:
I apologize for the mistake. This will not happen again, and further, I assure you that I was acting in good faith and will keep this error in the back of my mind constantly to ensure this will not reoccur. Thank you for pointing out my folly, so that others may not share your pain at being warned for no reason. Once again, I thank you. Arknascar44 ¡Hablar Conmigo! 19:12, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Help! The article on "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is in jeorpardy of non consensus editing after full protection ends
There has been an editing war going on at this page. I have atempted to find sources (almost all sources on the page are ones I have cited) for a recent deletion to taglines. As per Wikiguidlines the section was re-writen in the form of a paragraph and not a list. I feel the taglines mentioned are note worthy and have located sources to back up my assertion, yet a single editor is still arguing and making broad over reaching statements that are not in good faith, and are not backed up by Wiki policy. While I wish everyone to be envolved I believe the member Atropos, is not acting in good faith or editing in a nuetral manner. If I am wrong about this could you explain why. A consensus is being attempted yet he refuses to allow time for the discussion and has even become bitter about the inclusion that several editors have agreed on. This is becoming a serious problem. I am truely at my wits end about the situation. Please help! --Amadscientist 08:34, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for the attempt at help. It is still welcomed by me but that may well not mean anything. I do not know what else to do. Should I simply give in to what now appears to be 3 against one? --Amadscientist 22:30, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- My apologies, but to avoid further damage, I will not leave comments on the article's talkpage, which I'm sure will result in some kind of conflict. For now, I remain neutral on the issue. However, as for your "giving in", if there is a majority, I believe consensus has been reached. On the other hand, WP:CON states that "consensus can change", so your edits could prevail in the end, so to speak. If it should help at all, take a look at a similar dispute that made its way all the way up to ArbCom. Arknascar44 ¡Hablar Conmigo! 14:19, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Your VandalProof Application
Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Arknascar44. As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that you have only been editing for just over a month.
Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank again for your interest in VandalProof. Daniel 08:20, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- None taken. It is a powerful tool, and it is understandable you would not want it to fall into the wrong hands. Expect another application in a couple of months! ;) Arknascar44 ¡Hablar Conmigo! 19:25, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I'm sorry to bother you, but as a LoCE member, I just wondered if you would be willing to have a look through the Shaw and Crompton article. It is currently a Featured Article Candidate and needs a copy-edit for grammar by someone who hasn't yet seen it. Any other ways to improve the article would also be welcome. Thank you very much, if you can. Epbr123 12:20, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- I would love to look through it, thanks for the offer Epbr123. However, I'm gone this weekend, and I'm not sure if that conflicts with the end of the FAC nomination. If it does, I won't be able to help (and I'm terribly sorry if that's true). If it doesn't, I'll sort it out on Monday. Cheers, Arky ¡Hablar Conmigo! 21:57, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Your turn
I have recently become entangled in a situation which developed primarily on Talk:American Family Association (and associated edit war on the article), now archived to Talk:American Family Association/Archive 1. I have given basic background and some links to difs on WP:ANI#Mentors wanted (no, nobody is interested apparently) and there is more to the tale on the contributor's talk page. Here is your chance to be brilliant! I request criticism of my approach, and suggestions for how to proceed. This will have a double benefit: while I can critique your comprehension and methodology, I will gain the benefit of your critique and ideas. And we may reap a triple benefit, if the editor in question can learn here as well. I look forward to your thoughts on the matter - please post here so as to keep the discussion intact. Thanks much - KillerChihuahua?!? 14:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Alright, let's break this down...it's a bit complcated:
Part 1: Your Initial Approach
Your first comment to LAEC was very well put. The only problem I have with it is that you called him a troll, which is certainly acceptable under WP:TROLL, which states "When a user, in a conflict of any sort, insists on the letter of a rule while grossly violating its spirit", e.g. misinterpreting WP:VANDAL#NPOV Disputes (if only a little), but perhaps you could've assumed good faith for a bit longer. I know this is a bit of a stretch, considering the numerous vandalism accusations that were made, but, when it all comes down to it, he was trying to insert what he thought was NPOV and factual information into the article. He just got a bit carried away by all the excitement (though this in no way excuses his actions). Still, not accusing a troll of being one might've stopped things from getting worse.
Part 2:The Block
Your block, along with reasoning, was completely justified and fair. You followed the blocking policy without any violations. It could be said that you were involved in the content dispute, but, IMHO, you weren't. You weren't disputing content, just the behavior of LAEC. So, your block leaves me with nothing to critique =).
Part 3:What to do Now
Well...this one's a bit tricky. You're dealing with a big temper, so an accusation, in my opinion, is not the way to go. You need to tell the user that you meant no harm, but that they needed to understand blatant personal attacks, even ones they think are based on a policy that allows them to say such things, are not allowed. Instead, they should assume that other editors were doing what they thought was right. Also, tell them you understand that they were only trying to insert correct information into the article, but that they need to understand the article is the community's article, not theirs, and they need to acknowledge others' opinions, even if they don't agree with them. In addition, they need to thouroughly read WP:CIVIL and learn how to deal with an opinion they don't agree with, and how to cite policy without harassing other editors. As for the content dispute, if they can understand civility, it shouldn't be an issue. Besides, it shouldn't be your problem, since the only problem you're trying to fix is LAEC's behavior, not a category debate. Fixing his behavior will probably fix the content issue, anyway :)
- Hope this clears things up a bit, Arky ¡Hablar Conmigo! 23:09, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I didn't call him a troll, but did mention that his actions were trolling if certain conditions were met, which could have been phrased better. You're correct that I have scrupulously avoided getting into the content dispute, and have never edited the article, so there is zero conflict. I have attempted to do precisely as you suggest on his talk page already, but your phrasing is so good that if you don't mind, I'm going to paste it on his page - unless you'd like to do it. He may be more receptive to you, as you haven't blocked him. Not to mention that your phrasing is kinder than mine was.
- So full marks, and thank you! KillerChihuahua?!? 00:05, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ha, thanks. You can paste it, though....he'll probably have no idea who I am :) Arky ¡Hablar Conmigo! 00:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Incorporated it into my most recent post on his talk page. It appears from his post immediately prior, that progess is indeed being made! KillerChihuahua?!? 00:50, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

How do you set up the design for a cabal
How do you set up the design for a cabal, you know like the heart at the top of a page or penguin. I tried to ask that Ryulong but he was just joking around. Lighthead 22:05, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, Lighthead, I'm happy to help :) First make a subpage like User:Lighthead/Cabal, then create it with the syntax below. It's a bit complex, and I'm no expert at template syntax, but I'll do my best. Here goes:

- Hope that helps in your quest to create a cabal icon. Oh, and if you want to include some kind of member list or anything else on your cabal's subpage, type
<noinclude> Whatever you want to say on the page </noinclude>
- By the way, if you have any questions at all, just drop me a line here. Happy editing and hidey-ho, Arky¡Hablar! 00:25, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Just wondering how you made the cool sig for talk pages and such. Been trying to make one on my own and well it is not working. O and good luck on your anit-vandal group.Phoenix741 01:45, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hello, again! Ok, well, to make a signature of your own, go to your preferences by clicking preferences in the top-right corner of the screen when you log in, or just click here. In the box next to "signature", just type in the wiki code to produce it. For example, the horrendously long code for my sig is <span style="font-family:Verdana;color:#80461B">A</span><font color="#964B00">r</font><font color="#B87333">k</font><font color="#CC7722">y</font><font color= "#b7410e">¡Hablar!</font>. You can play around with that, or try something else....its up to you. Oh, and be sure to check the box next to raw signature. Otherwise, you sig'll look pretty messed up. Hope that helps, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask right here; I'm always ready :) Arky¡Hablar! 01:51, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Spanish to English Translations
I've noticed you're involved in the Spanish-to-English translations project. I'd like to get involved as well, but am not sure how to begin. I have translated two pages (Cucuta Deportivo and Magico Gonzalez, but would like expand my involvement as well as include further pages. I was hoping you had advice on how to do this. Both pages I translated are, of course, in need of proofreading as I'm only human (sigh) so advice on that would be great too. Thanks in advance Isaiahcambron 18:20, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Isaiah, I'm happy to help. In order to become a translator from spanish to english and vice versa (I'm assuming you're doing Spanish translation because of the examples you've given me....but correct me if I'm wrong) just add the text es to your userpage which will add a fancy little box to it. If you also want to become a proofreader, add the text es to your page. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me here. - Arky, a user may blank his or her own talk page whenever they wish. Archiving is encouraged, but not required. The only exception is IP addresses, as they do not "own" their talk pages in the same sense that a registered user "owns" their talk page. See WP:TALK#User talk pages. Tagging of Image:Winning Eleven 9.jpg
OrphanBot left a note at User Talk:Crassic saying that the above mentioned image lacked an image tag. However, approximately one hour after the tag was added [3] OrphanBot still notified User:Crassic about the tagging issue [4] even though the tag was added after OrphanBot tagged the image as untagged [5]. Is there a way to stop the bot from notifying a user after the tag has been added, but before it edits the user's talk page? Thanks, and happy editing, Arky¡Hablar! 00:26, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Are you sure you've got the relative times right there? It looks to me like OrphanBot marking the image as "untagged", then less than 60 seconds later, notifying the user. The copyright tag is then added fifteen minutes after that. --Carnildo 01:49, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
