Gadar 2: The Katha Continues (transl. Rebellion 2) is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language period action drama film directed and produced by Anil Sharma from a story written by Shaktimaan Talwar. It is a sequel to the 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha[5] The film stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma reprising their roles from the first film.[6][7]

Gadar 2 is scheduled to be released on 11 August 2023.[8][9]

Premise

During the backdrop of "Crush India" campaign in 1971, Tara Singh travels back to Pakistan on a personal mission to save his son Charanjeet "Jeete" Singh who is imprisoned and tortured by the Pakistan soldiers under Major General Hamid Iqbal.[10]

Zee Studio, Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma officially announced Gadar 2: The Katha Continues on 15 October 2021 (Dusshera) on their social media accounts, revealing the release date 2022 with motion poster.[12] The first poster of the sequel titled Gadar 2 was unveiled on 26 January 2023 (Republic Day) and it shows Tara Singh, played by Sunny, with a hammer.Gadar Ek Prem Katha was re-released in cinemas on 9 June 2023.[13] The teaser of the film was released on 12 June 2023, coinciding with 22nd anniversary of Gadar Ek Prem Katha.[14] The trailer of the film was released on 26 July 2023, coinciding with Kargil Vijay Diwas.[15]

Casting

Sunny Deol was chosen for the role of Tara Singh for Ghadar 2 . Sunny deol refused for this role. They said that films like Gadar: Ek Prem Katha can be made only once in history. Sunny Deol said that he is not as enthusiastic as before and was not convinced about Gadar 2. "We had made Gadar but the audience made it a Blockbuster. Initially, I was a bit apprehensive about whether we would do justice and continue the legacy of the first part.The film's director Anil Sharma said that after several calls, he finally agreed to listen to the story. He had tears in his eyes when we sat down for the narration and finished it. Thus began the journey of Gadar 2.[16]
Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma reprise their roles of Sakeena and Charanjeet "Jeete" Singh from the first film.[11]
Nimrat Khaira was offered the role of Charanjeet Singh's love interest, Muskaan, in September 2021. Khaira rejected the offer in wake of the 2020–2021 Indian farmers' protest. saying that Zee Studio and Bollywood had opposed the farmers' protest, so she will not work in any film offered by Bollywood.[17] After Khaira turned down the role, Simi Chahal was offered the same role, but she also rejected it due to the protests.[18] During an interview in May 2022, Shipra Goyal said that she was offered the role of Ghadar 2 after Chahal but also declined.[19] Wamiqa Gabbi also rejected the role of Muskaan.[20] Kainaat Arora is said to have flatly refused for the role of Gadar 2.[21] Eventually, the makers brought in Simrat Kaur for the role.[11] Manish Wadhwa was offered the role of a Pakistani army general in the film. Rohit Choudhary, was also cast in the role of a Pakistani army general in the film. Luv Sinha and Gaurav Chopra have also been cast in important role.

The shoot of the film was wrapped up by May 2023.[22]

Music

The music of the film is composed by Mithoon while lyrics are written by Sayeed Quadri.[23] The first single titled "Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava" was released on 29 June 2023.[24] The second single titled "Khairiyat" was released on 18 July 2023.[25] The third single titled "Main Nikla Gaddi Leke" is schedule to release on 3 August 2023.

Gadar 2: The Katha Continues is scheduled to be released in India on 11th August 2023.[26]
