Yang Shuyu (Chinese: 杨舒予; pinyin: Yáng Shūyǔ; born 6 March 2002) is a Chinese basketball player for Inner Mongolia Women's Basketball Team. She is the sister of the basketball player Yang Liwei.[1][2]

At age 19, she competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics,[3] reaching a bronze in 3x3 basketball.[1] From then on, her attractiveness and boyishness went viral among mainly Chinese internet users, and also became the focus of attention of Chinese Internet communities, which was reported by local news outlets.[4][5][6][7] In July 2023, Shuyu and the Chinese Women's National Basketball Team won the 2023 Women's Basketball Asia Cup championship.

In 2023, she was selected as Prada Brand Ambassador.[8]

Early Life

On March 6, 2002, Yang Shuyu was born in Kunming, Yunnan, China.[9]

In 2014, Yang Shuyu became a national second-level athlete.[9]

In 2016, Yang Shuyu became a national first-level athlete.[9]

In 2019, Shuyu was admitted to Beijing Sport University.

Career

Guangdong

On October 16, 2018, Yang Shuyu, as a player for the Guangdong Dongguan Xintongsheng Women's Basketball Club, completed her first WCBA registration. On March 23, 2019, in the WCBA Finals, Shuyu helped Guangdong won the 2018-19 season WCBA championship by defeating Bayi Women's Basketball Club with a score of 97-81. This victory marked the first-ever WCBA championship in Guangdong's history.[9]

In the 2018-19 season, Yang represented Guangdong in 10 regular-season games, averaging 11.5 minutes per game and contributing 4.2 points and 1.6 assists per game.

In the 2019-20 season, Yang represented Guangdong in 12 regular-season games, averaging 13.9 minutes per game and contributing 6.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

In the 2020-21 season, Shuyu represented Guangdong in 16 regular-season games, averaging 23.6 minutes per game and contributing 11.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. She also played in 1 playoff game, averaging 26.7 minutes, with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. In

the 2021-22 season, Shuyu represented Guangdong in 17 regular-season games, averaging 29.6 minutes per game and contributing 15.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. She also played in 1 playoff game, averaging 24.3 minutes, with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.[10]

Inner Mongolia

In November 2022, Yang Shuyu joined the WCBA Inner Mongolia Nongxin Basketball Club. On March 12, 2023, she won the WCBA runner-up with the Inner Mongolia Women's Basketball Team.[11]

National Team

On November 4, 2019, Yang Shuyu was qualified to participate in the women's three-on-three basketball event at the Tokyo Olympics.[9]

On July 2, 2023, in the final of the Women's Basketball Asian Cup, Yang Shuyu and the Chinese women's basketball team defeated the Japanese women's basketball team 73-71 and won the Asian Cup championship.[12]
