One More Time...[3] is the upcoming ninth studio album by American rock band Blink-182, set to be released on October 20, 2023 through Columbia Records. The album marks the reunion of Blink-182's best-known lineup, consisting of bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus, drummer Travis Barker (who also produced the album), and guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, who returned after a seven-year absence from the band. A series of events, including health struggles, brought the trio closer together, leading to their reformation.

Southern Californian rock trio Blink-182 rose to stardom at the turn of the millennium on the strength of its peppy, fast-paced pop-punk style;[4] their multi-platinum albums like Enema of the State (1999), Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (2001), and their untitled album (2003) helped popularize the genre worldwide.[5] Its core members, including guitarist Tom DeLonge, bassist Mark Hoppus, and drummer Travis Barker, shared similar musical and comic sensibilities.[6] By 2005, however, the group experienced considerable discord with DeLonge at its center, and broke up at the beginning of the year. DeLonge cut all ties with his former bandmates until 2008, when Barker was involved in a plane crash to which he was one of two survivors.[7] Ultimately, the trio decided they still wanted to make music together, and announced their return the following year.[8]

Following their reunion, the band released Neighborhoods in 2011, and an EP titled Dogs Eating Dogs in 2012.[4] During this time, DeLonge became more and more invested in non-musical activities, which eventually lead to his second departure from the group in 2015.[9] Hoppus and Barker however decided to keep the band together this time, enlisting Alkaline Trio singer and guitarist Matt Skiba to take DeLonge's place.[10] The new iteration of the band proved popular, scoring their second number-one album (and first in 15 years) on the Billboard 200[11] and a Grammy nomination for its 2016 effort California.[12] The band also proved to be more active during this time, releasing their eighth studio album Nine in 2019, and touring extensively for both albums.

Another unlikely series of events would set the stage for the band's next reunion into the 2020s. DeLonge made a return into the music scene with his band Angels & Airwaves, while Barker staged a second act as a producer, helping ignite a rise in pop-punk's popularity in his work with Machine Gun Kelly.[13] He also experienced renewed celebrity due to his marriage to Kourtney Kardashian, and overcame his long-held fear of flying in 2021. That same year, Hoppus was diagnosed with a deadly lymphoma, and underwent extensive chemotherapy to be cancer-free by late 2021.[14][15] His diagnosis prompted the three to re-convene again and overcome old disputes, which lead to DeLonge's return to the band.[6] Likewise, Barker's new ability to travel by air opened possibilities to tour in areas the band had never, namely Latin America. With restored friendship and focus, the three began recording in secret. Skiba was unaware of DeLonge's return until it was publicly announced in 2022, though he had begun to question whether he was still in the band.[16] Despite this, he showed both excitement and gratitude for the trio, and thanked fans for his time in the band. DeLonge also privately reached out to him on social media to thank Skiba for his time with the band.[17][10]

Release

The album's promotional cycle began with the announcement of the band's next world tour, as well their reunion with DeLonge. News of his return had swirled in fan communities for months.[2] but was officially announced on October 11, 2022 alongside the news that a new album was in the works. Later that week, the album's first single, "Edging", was also released, and pre-order sales for vinyl variants of the album also went up, though the LP lacked a title or release date.[18] "Edging" performed well in the US; it became their longest-running number one hit on Billboard's Alternative Airplay, and the band's highest-charting single on the all-genre Hot 100 in eighteen years.[19] Its music video also was nominated for Best Alternative Video at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.[20]

Due to the nature of the band's surprise reunion, the LP was considered to be greatly anticipated.[21][22] In September 2023, posters emblazoned with the album's title and the band's logo were plastered on walls in major cities across different countries, including New York, Toronto, Chicago, Sydney, Berlin, and more.[23] The group's official site was updated with a "stall" page—a visual of a graffiti-tagged bathroom, with a digital clock icon counting down to the release of the album's second single.[24]

In July 2023, Travis Barker said that the album is planned to come out in October 2023.[25] On September 18, 2023, it was announced that the album will be released on October 20, 2023. The album’s title track will be released on September 21, 2023.[26]

Touring

The band is supporting the release with a large headlining tour between 2023 and 2024.[27] A North American leg commenced mid-year,[28] before the album's release, with festival slots at the inaugural Adjacent Festival in New Jersey,[29] and When We Were Young in Nevada.[30] It became their best-performing outing yet, netting over $85 million.[31] In September, the band embarked on a tour across Europe, with a series of dates in Australia—the band's first in eleven years—commencing in February 2024.[32] Another leg of shows in Latin America, the band's first time playing there, will start in 2024, including headlining slots at Lollapalooza in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil.[33] This leg of the tour was initially slated for the first half of 2023, but was postponed after Barker sustained a serious finger injury that required surgery.[34] Following this though, the group made a surprise appearance at Coachella 2023, marking DeLonge's first live appearance with the group since his return.[35] This was followed by a second appearance as the Sunday headliner of the festival's second weekend; singer Frank Ocean was unable to perform, and the band came in to fill his slot.[36]
