Nenad Stevandić (Serbo-Croatian Cyrillic: Ненад Стевандић; born 12 October 1966) is a Bosnian Serb politician and otorhinolaryngologist. He is an incumbent (8th) Speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska; he is a president of United Srpska political party, a former (2018 term) parliamentary representative of Alliance of Independent Social Democrats and a former-active functionary of Serb Democratic Party.

Biography

Stevandić was born on 12 October 1966 in Drvar,[1] a son of Stojan and Borka.[2]

He graduated Medical faculty of University of Banja Luka [sr] in 1995 and specialized otorhinolaryngology in 2002 in Belgrade.[1][2] He was a participant of Bosnian War.[3] He got a job in Banja Luka Clinical Center, where he has been working since (in a clinic for diseases of ear, nose and throat);[2] a vice superintendent of this institution was named in 2018.[2]

He became a member of a political party in 1990 for the first time, when Serb Democratic Party (SDS) was founded; this is the party he had been a member of for following seven years.[2] He re-joined SDS in 2008 and won a political seat two years later, in 2010, as a representative in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (NSRS).[2] In October 2014 Stevandić gained his second term as SDS representative in NSRS.[2] He then left SDS in 2015 and founded United Srpska (Уједињена Српска; US) political party.[2]

Since November 2022 he has been[4][5][6] 8th Speaker of the NSRS.

Controversies

Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina banned Stevandić's Ujedinjena Srpska political party from participating in the 2020 Bosnian municipal elections, with him being financially fined; the reason was publication of a video that could aspire hatred.[2][14]
