Edits

Hi, there, I am Woody, you may have seen me edit some of the pages that you have created. First off I would like to welcome you to wikipedia, (an incredibly belated welcome I know). Second, I would like to offer my assistance if you ever need it. I think our football loyalties are very close! Last, I would ask if you know about WP:FOOTY. If you want you could join up and discuss how to edit football related articles. It is also another place to ask for assistance if you need it. So, any problems, just leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Woodym555 (talk) 00:43, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, always good to see Villa fans. Me and Everlast1910 have been going through the Villa articles for a while now. Got 1 FA, 3 FLs and 2 GAs at the moment. We are working on the third - History of Aston Villa F.C. (1961-present) so I know what it is like. Once we had finsihed them, I was thinking about starting some season articles. There is a template the footy project have made for it which you might be interested in. Woodym555 (talk) 19:50, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - there has been some debate going on at Talk:1897 FA Cup Final regarding your original edit that "This makes them the only team to date to achieve the league and cup "double" on the same day." I have now researched this and added an explanation to the article. Presumably this is specifically stated in one of the written histories of either Aston Villa or the FA Cup. Are you able to add a specific citation to the article? Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 07:15, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scottish Challenge Cup Final

The venue isn't chosen until it is known which two clubs will be in the final, as the SFL then try to choose a stadium which is located somewhere between the middle of both clubs, in geographical terms. Ck12 (talk) 21:21, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Honours in 10 decades

Hey, I'm afraid I'm about to remove your recent addition to the lead of Aston Villa F.C. about them being the only English club to win honours in 10 different decades. It may be true, but it's both unsourced and, in my opinion at least, rather too trivial a piece of information to belong in the lead section. If you have a reliable source for it, it might be more appropriate to add it to Aston Villa F.C. statistics and records, but perhaps wait until that list has finished its Featured List candidacy :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:58, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Tom Green (footballer)

A tag has been placed on Tom Green (footballer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Riotrocket8676 You gotta problem with that? 17:39, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First Blues/Villa game

Hi, I'm afraid Tony Matthews isn't the most consistent of sources: "Blues first met Aston Villa on 27 September 1879 in what was billed as a "friendly" match at Muntz Street. Blues registered a 1-0 victory that led to the Villa players claiming that the pitch was only suitable for pot holing!" Source: Matthews, Tony (2000). The Encyclopedia of Birmingham City Football Club 1875–2000. Cradley Heath: Britespot. p. 17. ISBN 978-0-9539288-0-4. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |month= ignored (help)

Though I'll raise you Blues' "Official History": "On 27th September 1879, the Heathens had an engagement at Muntz Street, which was to form the beginnings of that great Midlands rivalry with Aston Villa. Small Heath won the game, which was recorded as 'one goal and a disputed goal to nil'!" Source: Lewis, Peter, ed. (2000). Keeping right on since 1875. The Official History of Birmingham City Football Club. Lytham: Arrow. p. 9. ISBN 1-900722-12-7.

And the (neutral) clincher, I think. The Sporting Mail (the Saturday sports edition of the Birmingham Daily Mail, as it was then called) published a potted history of Blues on the Saturday before they moved from Muntz Street to St Andrew's, which contained the sentence "It was not until 1879 that the Alliance first met Aston Villa, and present-day supporters may be glad to be reminded that that the encounter ended in a victory for Small Heath." Source: "The Week's Gossip". Sporting Mail. 22 December 1906. p. 1. ... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 22:34, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit you made to the page Aston Villa F.C. has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, please ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thank you. Hi! Yes, there were no bronze medal game in 1930, but FIFA considers USA third and Yugoslavia fourth that year. This can be seen on wikipedia's template for that year, as well as on the FIFA pages for USA and Serbia. This has caused debate before, see Talk:1930 FIFA World Cup#Third/Fourth place. I have now commented on this on the discuss section of 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification. Lejman (talk) 14:56, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

David Taylor

RE: David Taylor snooker player, my understanding is that he is fully retired but the prelim qualifying round he entered is only available to WPBSA members, similar to how Tony Knowles entered the competition last year. so whilst he's retired, as he's not one of the 96 profesional tour players, it is still possible to enter the worlds qualifiers, (I think). - By anonymous poster.

Ok, ta. Moved post to my discussion page. --Villafancd (talk) 19:54, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2022 Commonwealth Games

The article 2022 Commonwealth Games has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi CD

Just to say thanks for your contributions to the page I started for Bernie. I was most surprised that he didn't have one to start with...see on H&V and maybe at the Barton's some time this season :-) regards Martyn Smith (talk) 09:55, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Samir Carruthers has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. ∫eb²+1(talk) 17:18, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think he now deserves a Wiki page as he has now played for the first-team (albeit it for only a few minutes) and is therefore now classed as 'notable'. I'll stick a couple of references in, ta. Villafancd (talk) 11:32, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just looked again and noticed refs have already been provided so no worries. Villafancd (talk) 11:34, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

December 2023

Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the Fábio Silva (footballer, born 2002) article, but I have found one and added it for you. Please try and remember to include sources yourself with future edits. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 10:49, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
