The plot summary in this article is very brief, and claims that the book starts at a point that is actually about two-thirds of the way into the book. It'd be cool to see a more thorough plot summary on here. Anthonyjosephdavid (talk) 22:19, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Plot Summary

[edit]

The plot summary needs a lot of work done on it, I havn't even read past the sixth chapter yet and I already noticed a lot of mistakes, can someone who has read the book fix it? c.m1994 (talk to me, if you dare.) 21:26, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have not been back to reread the book after my first time. That was a pivotal experience for me. The book's organization and content are great and don't dwell on the sensational, contrary to what one poster says. Read in the context of every boy, whether he becomes a child soldier or something else, it's a gratifying example of males treated with real respect-something not common anywhere, including in the United States (compare the mandatory Selective Service registration). The lengths to which others went to salvage Beah are uncommon but should be the norm. For example, if we were to regularly apply such an approach to young boys--like my grandsons--we would dramatically reduce the number of suicides among boys and young men by dealing with them as individuals rather than as functions of where they are in the social fabric. As it is we indoctrinate males, through the media and elsewhere, from an early age to accept suicide as an appropriate alternative.Godofredo29 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 19:59, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Obvious Mistakes

[edit]

After reviewing the plot, I had also noticed a lot of major mistakes. Not only is it inaccurate, but it has no formatting, and has the writing style of an average 6th grader. "They learned a couple songs and are going to perform in a contest" is the line which immediately tipped me off that this NEEDS to be fixed. It also uses the acronym RUF throughout the summary, but never states what it is. I will definately come back and fix this up when I have the time. Ohelig (talk) 15:45, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
