POV
"The freely associated states are all dependent on U.S. financial assistance to meet both government operational and capital needs." Even if its true, its poorly written, showing a superiority that isnt adequate for an Encyclopedia. LtDoc 12:31, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
- What do you mean by "superiority"? What would be a more NPOV way of putting it? --Jfruh 17:44, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
The "superiority" comment above is idiotic.
Map request
It is requested that a map or maps be included in this article to improve its quality. Wikipedians in Oceania or the United States may be able to help! |
An orientation map showing the locations of the Freely Associated States, Hawaii, and the U.S. mainland would be helpful. -- Beland 16:29, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Put one on there now from the TTPI article, although it is an old one. Maybe someone could find a more up-to-date one later? That-Vela-Fella 19:23, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Compact Impact and Compact 2
"Compact Impact" means immigrants from ROP/FSM/RMI to GU/MP/HI/AS use services (education, medical, etc) thus creating a financial "impact" to those US local governments, and therefore these US islands are reimbursed by the US federal government for the "impact" caused by the "compact". These four jurisdictions, due to their proximity to the 3 FASs, have high concentrations of those populations. (Unlike CA, where Micronesian impact is negligible when compared to illegal Mexicans' impact.)
Compact Impact had been requested well before Compact 2 and granted annually by the US Congress. What happened at Compact 2 (RMI/FSM only, since Palau's Compact 1 is not expired yet) was that the GU/HI/AS congressional representatives pushed for Compact Impact reimbursements to be written into the Compact (a treaty) itself, therefore guaranteeing money for a long term. Therefore "immigration from Palau" is relevant info to explain "compact impact" despite Palau still running on Compact 1. HkCaGu 08:38, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Paragraph 2 has this sentence at the end "The U.S. treats these nations uniquely by giving them access to many U.S. domestic programs, including disaster response and recovery and hazard mitigation programs under Federal Emergency Management Agency." Isn't FEMA gone, thus rendering this line incorrecr? 71.197.235.155 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 18:18, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Huh? FEMA is alive and well! HkCaGu (talk) 18:37, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
FEMA is still a federal agency. On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). 1ragincajun (talk) 21:58, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
Mail Addressing?
As these places use the US domestic mail addressing format, when and how should a "country" be indicated? No need to include USA or via USA if posted from the USA. The zip code is what the post office uses to sort mail.
For mail from California to Palau, which of these is correct? For mail from France to Palau which is correct?

Etymology
"compact" seems to be unique. Please include an etymology on this.68.151.25.115 (talk) 09:21, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Date of estabilishment (1983, 1986)?
The article doesn't really mention when was this established. Categories suggest 1986, but I think this is when it entered into force, but it was designed and signed in 1983, which is an important date that appears in some sources. This article should clarify this. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:05, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
