Illustration

[edit]

The picture shows the Villa Savoye's least significant facet. Isn't there anyone nearby who can photograph this landmark? RCSB 17:05, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pronounciation

[edit]

Anyone care to add a pronounciation? There is a tendency for some people to pronounce it "villa savoir", others more literally as "villa sav-oy". What's the right one?

Response: The correct pronunciation is "villa sav-WAH", though the Americanized "villa sa-VOY" is acceptable.

More constructive comments, please

[edit]

Rather than informing us the picture is lacking without explaining why, it would be much more helpful if the person complaining about the picture would take the time to edify us on the finer points of the Villa Savoye instead.

A Constructive Comment

[edit]

Although I did not write either of the two comments above, I cannot see how the second will help us resolve the problem of finding better pictures. Why should he edify you on the finer points of Villa Savoye when the article already provides a good insight into five things that the pictures should show? It would be very nice if the pictures revealed how Corbusier's five design concepts were realised through the Villa Savoye. In those pictures you cannot see how the concrete frame of the building is deliberately removed from the glass facade on the ground level, or how the large ramp in the middle of the building creates space between the floors, or that there is a rooftop garden etc etc. Perhaps a few more close-ups would be nice. Or even a few plan and section drawings. Does that help?

Cold in the Winter

[edit]

I know that one problem with this building is that it was uninhabitably cold in the winter (due in large part to the large areas of single-pane glass). I don't know if that relates to the court case between the owners and Corb though. Someone could find out and write it up.

Response: At the risk of sounding artsy fartsy, I disagree. The whole reason the Villa Savoye is in Wikipedia is that it's a great work of art--outrageously innovative in its time and hugely influential to every generation of architects who've followed it. Issues like roof leaks and window drafts, though entertaining to read about, are a little beside the point. Corb was designing flat roofs before the technology for flat roofs could catch up. Look, I enjoy seeing the mighty brought low as much as the next guy, but this is like criticizing St. Augustine for his spelling. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.75.80.162 (talk) 20:48, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

The personal "analysis" of the Villa Savoy references some of the important aspects of the house, but is really just a lot of gibberish to my eyes and brain. I don't think it needs to be on there. http://www.ab-a.net/index.cgi?Villa_Savoye —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jjdonald (talkcontribs) 18:52, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Commons

[edit]

Could it be possible to transfer the images on Commons so that other language wikipedias can use it. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.120.125.80 (talk) 09:00, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately that's not possible. Due to diffrerences in legal interpretations between en.wikipedia and Commons, pictures of Villa Savoye are deleted on Commons. See [1] and [2]. D4m1en (talk) 09:02, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tone problems

[edit]

Much of this article is written in a sort of critic's burble. I think we could at least refrain from offering on our paeans to the building. Mangoe (talk) 14:57, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
