I keep misreading the title as Jumala, which is the Finnish word for God. JIP | Talk 08:38, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Etymology of the name

[edit]

Jūrmala sounds like an Estonian or Finnish place name. Does the etymology have known Uralic influence? Or is it the other way round? Matti Nuortio, Oulu, Finland (talk) 01:11, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I replaced this:

Many tourism speculators label Jūrmala as a town waiting to be rediscovered.

With a reference to the Lonely Planet guide to the region, which is highly complimentary.

I suspect the Lonely Planet writer may however have been a Pom, however...--Robert Merkel 20:56, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not agree with the statement that Jurmala is no longer a destination for Russian elite. It's become very popular again. Many Russian festivals are held in Jurmala in the summer.

Removals

[edit]

I've taken down the paragraphs which sound like the Jurmala tourist board wrote them. Perhaps someone can rewrite them to detail the resort facilities without sounding too like they are trying to advertise the resort. Lstanley1979 (talk) 21:53, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
