Request

[edit]

There are some people who vandalise Indian classical musicians' biographical webpages for personal publicity and lobbying purposes. The most recent one I have found of this kind is User:TunMaj. (I have found in many instances that this TunMaj is intentionally providing wrong informations in other musicians' webpages to promote a particular one.) Anyway, I have largely rewritten this biography of Aashish Khan now, and tried to make it look authentic. I am hereby requesting every wikipedians to please keep an eye on the vandalisers so that they can be checked from vandalising these pages.

Its a request for the benefit of all of us, for the benefit of the society. Most of the wikipedians I believe are "ladies and gentlemen". May I hope all to be so? Thanks everyone. Sarodiya 15:18, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that without proper copyright permissions, all these photos will be removed eventually. Rklawton 06:02, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More details

[edit]

--Rasputin98 18:25, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wonder if someone has more details on him. Stuff such as, mother's name, names of siblings, riyaaz patterns.

Commentry on his music, his style of play (is it "pure" Maihar, or has he added touches of his own?). Any notable public performances? Has he written any books? Any notable or upcoming students? Where would he rank amongst AAK's disciples?

About Ustad Aashish Khan

[edit]

First, the representing photograph would not perhaps lead to any commercial disputes. It is from Aashish Khan's own photo album.Chandronandan 13:09, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i changed the sub heading from Ustad AAshish Khan to Pandit AAshish Debsharma. The title of Ustad is traditionally given to a muslim and Pandit to a hindu. During January of 2006 Aashish Khan legally changed his name from Khan to Debsharma, claiming his family was never muslim. - Anjana Patel

Aashish Khan

[edit]

There are a lot of descrepencies, in this article. I have tryed to find a recording of the Beatles, with AAshish Khan none have surfaced with his name. Annapurana Devi is refered as a legendary Surbahar Player AND former trainer of Ravi Shankar. No where in Ravi Shankars biography is it mentioned he learned from his former wife. There is not one disc available of Anapurana Devi, how is she deemed a legendary musician??? Terms like living legends dont belong in an encyclopedia! An encylopedia is a place for reality not legends. Also AAshish Khan (According to National Orchestra in New Delhi) only was with them for an under a year. So that should have been included in the article. I did add that peice.

What made you edit Ustad Aashish Khan's biography?

And listen, 1. It is true that Annapurna Devi has not performed for long time. But she performed in her early days. She stopped performing following ego clash with her then husband Ravi Shankar. Ask the Government of India why is she considered as a legend. Why was she given honorary doctorate by Santiniketan Visvabharati? And why was she awarded Padma Bhushan, the nation's one of the highest civilian honours? The Government of India would better serve the answers to your silly questions. 2. And ask Ravi Shankar personally, when he suffered from St Vincent's Disease and forgot all that he learned from Baba Alauddin, then Annapurna Debi trained him and helped him recall all lessons. This was also written in Annapurna Debi's official biography written by Swapan Banerjee. 3. May be Aashish Khan served the National Orchestra for one year only. In this biography it is nowhere written that he served for long time. So what's your headache? 4.Can't you see the reference of Bihaan Music (website) where it has been written that he is the first ever Sarode maestro to compose a concerto? How you dared to delete it then?

Are the discrepancies clear to you now? Is not it better for you to oil your own machine? Please don't edit wikipedia articles being half-educated about a particular issue. Otherwise you will be CAUGHT through your IP.

Aashish Khan

[edit]

Caught by my IP!!!!!!! ho ho hum hum!!! what are you a cybercop??? and what do you mean: I'm simply stating facts!! you're the one elogising musicians by using terms like "legendary" what are you related to these musicians or are you a publicist?? get your facts straight, show wikipedia ONE reference from Ravi Shankars biography (he has two books out: my life my music and ragamala) there is not one mention where he has learned from annapurana devi!!! dude get real, if you want to show a musician is prominant then write something like "highly acclaimed" looks like every musician is legendary!! until you dont provide supporting facts people will revert your article.

[edit]

I did not have any idea that you are so fool. I am not a cybercop. But anyone can report against someone who vandalises, and can take steps accordingly.

Here I would wish to say you few things:

1. You told about supporting facts. Well see the external links page of Bihaan Music at Aashish Khan's biography. There it is written that he is the first ever musician to write a Sarode concerto. That works as a very good reference. Then why you deleted that statement? What was your problem? Why are you jealous of him? Instead, I advise you to tell Tejen to live a healthy life so that Tejen can perform better. This is not the way of competition.

2. I need not know about Ravi Shankar's biography. I told you to see Annapurna Devi's biography first and comment on that issue only then. Why did not you do that? Also who the hell you are to act as a police here? Leave the duty to the wiki administrators please.

3. You mean to say a person (Ustad Ali Akbar Khan) who has got Padma Vibhushan, is not a legend? Then who is a legend? You? Tejen?

4. And you fool listen, please visit the UCSC Faculty external link, you will find at UCSC that the very name of the position of Aashish Khan there was "Distinguished Professor". I did not make that. UCSC made that. So who are you to change that?

Foolishness has no credits. Come on man.

[edit]

first of all, stop using terms like "fool" and other deragatory words! Using language as such IS vandalism. So you're basically saying just because Annapurana devi's biography says she has taught Ravi Shankar its true!! hmm. However then you SHOULD add that this is according to Annapurana Devis biography and NOT Ravi Shankar. Just because someone receives a padma whatever does not mean they are "legendary" it may mean they are "highly acclaimed" in thier field. Guess then according to you Aashish Khan at allmost 70 will never reach the legend status right??? he's not even received the padma shree!! sorry! let keep the facts straight!! I am going to insert "according to annapurana devi's biography she taught Ravi, however there is no reference to this elswhere" Also what does Ravi Shankar have to do in Aashish Khans wikipedia!!! I WILL clean this article up a bit.

reply

[edit]

Yes TunMaj this point of your's make sense that I should write that according to Annapurna Devi's biography she trained Ravi Shankar. You are absolutely right in this regard and I appreciate this decision of yours. However since Ravi Shankar has nothing to do much in Aashish Khan's biography, I guess I can remove the phrase that Annapurna Devi trained Ravi.

But, everyone knows that Ali Akbar Khan is legendary. Anyway, did I ever write that Aashish Khan is legendary? No. He is just a good maestro trained by Baba Allauddin, and is far far ahead of Tejen both in age/seniority, and repertoire. And remember Aashish Khan may get the "Padma" anyday, but Tejen ;) is far away than that!

Also let me tell you that don't vandalise Ustad Bahadur Khan's webpage. You must give reference before writing derogatory words like Tejen has superseded the Ustad. This is blasphemy!!! Also, Kalyan Mukherjee never learned from Tejen. Don't try to create wrong publicity.

Be dignified. Don't force others to use bad language on you. Cheers.

Aashish Khan

[edit]

ok lets be real now!! with all due respect to Aashish Khan, he is not a top caliber Sarode player!! His own father has mentioned this in the Marin County Sun magazine. The man is unknown!! In the conservative as well as liberal firmaments of Indian classical music Tejendra Majumdar is deemed a far superior musician, sorry to break the news to you my friend. In Calcutta as well as around the world Tejendra is a much more revered Sarod player. I hate to say this but Aashish Khan is the black sheep of the family! I'm glad to know at 70 he'll get a Padma Shree, better something than nothing! right?? Also in the Biman website! listen to Aashish Khans playing!! decide for your self!!!!

Aashish Khan

[edit]

I'm sorry to police this article over and over!!! but I really dont know since when Ali akbar is a national treasure in India and the United States?????? Dude why dont you just call him god and get it over with???? this is wikipedia also aashish khan is NOT a guru!!! he's a teacher!! Go look up the meaning of guru!

Reply

[edit]

You better first police over your intentions. Dont say me about the father Khan's comments. He has always been interested in some dirtier things and NOT in teaching his own children.

Go ask Annapurna Devi or many other renowned senior Indian vocalists about Ustad Aashish Khan. They will tell you about the maestro better. Would Tejendra have been more revered, show me his list of honours!!! He is nearing his 50s right? Did not as yet got a Sangeet Natak Akademi, or Padma Shri! I dont know if AK is what you describe in his family, but I surely know you are an idiot in this civilization. Well in the Bihaan website that was the Jhala portion.

Even if you dont want to write AAK is not a national treasure, it is understandable. Also according to the original meaning of Guru AK is not so.

BUT, WHY YOU DELETED THE SENTENCE THAT AK FIRST WROTE A SARODE CONCERTO? CANT YOU SEE THE BIHAAN MUSIC WEBSITE REFERENCE???? ARE YOU BLIND??? AS LONG AS THERE IS A REFERENCE, A STATEMENT CAN REMAIN IN WIKIPEDIA.

ALSO, SEE THIS WEBSITE http://history.ucsc.edu/undergraduate/southasian/index.php HERE AK'S PROFILE IS AS "DISTINGUISHED ADJUNCT PROFESSOR OF MUSIC". THIS IS AN HONOUR. DON'T BE SO STUP*D TO DELETE IT WHEN IT IS REFERENCED. OK?

DON'T CHANGE HIS BIBLIOGRAPHY STYLE. AND DONT YOU KNOW RAVI WAS HIS UNCLE? GO HEAR IT FROM RAVI? WHY YOU NONSEN*E DELETE IT?

AND RATHER THAN WRITING AT AK'S BIOGRAPHY THAT TEJENDRA IS A SIMILAR ARTISTE, GO MAKE A HAGIOGRAPHY OF TEJEN YOURSELF. THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT PLACE. GET LOST.

Ashish Khan

[edit]

Ok. I hope you know Ravi Shankar has devorced Annapurana! As ravi was asshish's uncle through marriage, and since Ravi and Annapurana are no longer married, Ravi is NOT Aashish's uncle.......right! ok. so it is right that i reverted the sentence where you've mentioned Ravi as Ashish's uncle. also i dont understand why you the contemporary artsite section!! people should know who are Ashish Khans contemporaries. I'll add that and hey calm down, have i used negative word towards you?? I can report that to wiki administrators you know.

Hello Sir

Having good conflict!! You telling the maestro the black sheep, and getting a slap in return!! Anyway, let me tell you the for contemporary artistes section please see the categories of Sarod players below. That is the RIGHT PLACE. Calm down and be gentle.

its funny how all indian musicians are legendary or maestros!!!

FRAS

[edit]

Ustad Aashish Khan on 24 May, 2007 became the first ever Indian classical musician to be elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, patronised by Prince Charles. I have added the news clipping with REFERENCE. So IRRESPONSIBLE VANDALISERS PLEASE DON'T DELETE THAT. THAT IS REFERENCED.

  • It would have been nice if you had provided a reference with more detail than a blind link, because that link has now gone dead and this effectively lacks a citation. - Jmabel | Talk 07:31, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Happy to see vandalisers have now stopped writing idiotic statements here. Very good. This person Ustad Aashish Khan is an esteemed maestro and please don't doctor on his biography - this is my request to people who are semi-educated about Indian classical music. Aashish Khans marriage

[edit]

I tried to find details of this musicians marriage, but could not find any concrete sources. I did come across rumours (through internet chats) his marriage was broken due to his alcohol addiction! again this information cannot be sourced in the article as it is anecdoctal. As no concrete information is listed I have deleted this section in the article —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.22.232.147 (talk) 23:50, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating

[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 20:11, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is he technically an ustad?

[edit]

The honorific title "Ustad" is used throughout this article. My understanding is that the title of "Ustad" is bestowed (by the Indian government?) in formal recognition of musical greatness. If this is correct, then I'd like to see the details of this (i.e., whom, when, where...) in the article, perhaps in the section "Music and Accomplishments".

Formatting Problems

[edit]

Why are some sections in this text box where the text goes off the right side of the screen? How does one get rid of it? It makes some sections of this difficult to read. gar in Oakland (talk) 05:57, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sarod/sarode

[edit]

Outside of album titles, etc, we should stick to one or the other spelling. Right now the article uses both. - Jmabel | Talk 07:28, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stuff

[edit]

If anyone had some good references, this or some other edit near it might be good to work from.

In other news, I added it to Category:Music biography stubs. Because at present, it's most definitely a stub. Eman235/talk 05:05, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
