Removed content with inaccurate quote

DeMar seems to validated Media Matter's criticism in December 2005 when he told a Christian magazine that, "I would execute gays only if we catch them indulging in sodomy."[1] FloNight talk 20:26, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Hello 72.54.64.166
[edit]I saw that you edited the Gary DeMar article. Another editor removed the information from the article because it was not backed up by verifiable reliable sources. I apologize to you for that editor labeling your edits as vandalism. To me it looks like the edits might have been made by the subject or the article or someone that knows him. If that is the case, I encourage you to read WP:AUTO and the biographies of living person guideline. Hopefully, this will help you avoid some of the pitfalls of editing at Wikipedia.
If you have information that you want to add to the article, you can discuss it here on the talk page. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me on my user talk page or by email [2]. regards, FloNight talk 15:00, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Sodomy
[edit]I removed a statement saying that Gary Demar believes that sodomites should be killed. Although he has expressed that sodomy is not a right granted by the Constitution, and has also told the story of a military figure who was put to death for sodomy in 1778 (http://www.americanvision.org/articlearchive/05-10-06.asp), he hasn't outright stated that sodomy should be punished by death. Furthermore, his beliefs about sodomy are only a small part of his beliefs, and thus to include a comment on his belief of sodomy would only fit in if his views on several other things were also included. Sources
[edit]I think there HAS to be intependent sources about DeMar. Somebody like this gets lots of controversy, etc. I will look around V. Joe (talk) 16:13, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
This was quoted on my talk page
[edit]"Regarding independent sources for page on Gary DeMar/ American Vision Hi I came across the following article from the Southern Poverty Law Center. http://splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2010/winter/the-hard-liners
In the article, SPLC declared American Vision, along with 12 other groups, to be a "Hate Group". This action was taken because: "Even as some well-known anti-gay groups like Focus on the Family moderate their views, a hard core of smaller groups, most of them religiously motivated, have continued to pump out demonizing propaganda aimed at homosexuals and other sexual minorities. These groups’ influence reaches far beyond what their size would suggest, because the “facts” they disseminate about homosexuality are often amplified by certain politicians, other groups and even news organizations."
I hope this helps Pete 75.68.20.183 (talk) 04:13, 2 July 2011 (UTC)"
- I've not had time to add this in yet... but the SPLC is a reliable but biased and HIGHLY political source (Like say, Media Matters or Townhall or Mother Jones). V. Joe (talk) 04:23, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Restored published work
[edit]I restored the list of books authored by Demar. It had previously been edited out, and while this edit was surely in good faith, it comes from comments made on the AfD discussion on this article; comments that not only are inaccurate, but were made on the opposite side of clear consensus on the article itself. The reasoning on that edit stems from a misunderstanding of notability tests, specifically WP:NBOOK, which does not apply here. The notability test is for articles on the books themselves - not for inclusion as part of an author's body of work in a BLP. Second, it could be argued that most of Demar's published work does meet basic threshold standards; and I found quite a few references to his work, both positive and negative, in various journals and other books. Neither does WP:PROMOTION apply, unless of course Demar is editing this article himself, which does not appear to be the case. It is common practice to include an author's list of work in a WP article about them, and there is no good reason to exclude this list from the article. All that being said, the list does require additional information/edits. ISBNs and publisher information should be included in the list. ButlerBlog (talk) 23:26, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
