Blogs as references

[edit]

Are blogs credible as references in Wikipedia? Low standards, man. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.18.112.5 (talk) 12:18, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Narendra Prasad 10:36, 13 December 2009 (UTC)==Material not helpful for article== The recently added sections "Nomination Madras Legislative Council & Description" and "Almanac and Directory of Madras and Sourthern Jndia" are not helpful for an encyclopedic article on Wikipedia. The first appears to be an extract from a document to show a nomination for an election. The second appears to be four almost identical extracts from different editions of Who's Who. Articles need to outline facts and give a reference. The references themselves are not quoted (and certainly not four times). If there is no explanation or improvement, I propose these sections be removed. Johnuniq (talk) 00:43, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is necessary to show that Ramnath goenka as per the age of Indian Indian Express dated Oct. 5, 1991 was only 22 years whereas the qualification of age of any Member Legislative Council was 25 years. (User talk: Narendraaprasad) 22:43, 11 December 2009
Thanks for the explanation; I hope you don't mind but I assume you were replying to me so I have formatted your reply to illustrate how talk pages are normally used. I will think about the article later but you might like to read WP:OR which indicates that articles should not involve the presentation of material to demonstrate a new conclusion. We do not quote what we say are original documents and invite the reader to infer some conclusion unless that conclusion is supported by a reliable source. Johnuniq (talk) 07:37, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for formatting & Guiding. I am new to the shortcuts. I am 65+. I want to publish the history of Ramnath Goenka Prior to his taking over Indian Express. At that time he was an employee of my Father for Rs.100 INR salary & Indian Express was purchased out of My father's funds & we were deprived. The case is pending in Madras High Court since 1982. No Results. All what I want to publish is the court Judgement quotations & letters in Handwriting of Ramnath Goenka. Could you guide me whether I can add those in the same Page or I have to create separate page. Or can I put in the Sand Box & they can be published. Any How Thanks. --Narendra Prasad 10:36, 13 December 2009 (UTC)User:Narendraaprasad 16:00 13 December 2009
I may be able to provide some help, but first you need to read some of the relevant procedures. If you want, you can ask here if there is something you want clarified. There are two big problems with the plan you outline above: first, WP:OR prohibits editors (you and me) from performing original research (we publish what reliable sources have concluded, not what individual editors believe or have discovered); second, you may have a conflict of interest and that may make it hard for you to add material that complies with the neutral point of view requirement. If you have information that allows readers to draw some conclusion, you would need to publish the information on your own website because Wikipedia only publishes verified material.
If you want to be successful here, you will need to spend some serious time reading the information at the pages I have linked. I am not aware of any examples on Wikipedia where court quotations and letters are published; articles generally describe the results of research published by reliable sources. Johnuniq (talk) 07:09, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I will go through the links & see what I can write. I have already created my own web site. I will publish as suggetsed by you . Narendra Prasad 20:00, 15 December 2009 (UTC)Narendra Prasad 01.30, 16 Decembaer 2009 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Narendraaprasad (talkcontribs)

The words ""hopes for bext generation rest"" gives a conclusion & requires deletion ,It has to be deleted & Revised as follows:

(The next generation is Aditya son of Manoj Santholia currently studying in Australia, and Anant son of Viveck Goenka who is pursuing a master's degree in journalism from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.)

This para removed on 8 th dec 2011. to add back. To show how goenka acquired express shares & when

1936: Goenka gave Promossory Note of Rs. 500000 ( Rs.Five Lakhs ) on Sept 1, 1936 in favour of Raja Mohan Prasad of Hyderabad his Financing Partner. The Promissory note still remains unpaid even after 75 years. Goenka also gave a declaration in 1936 that he was a trustee of all the properties purchased in his name including the debentures of Free Press of India (Madras) Ltd. and were purchased out of the monies of Raja Mohan Prasad Murliprasad Mohanprasad of Hyderabad, India.[1]
Subsequently, he bought all the shares of the company for Rs. 2.5 lakh.

Why the facts are removed Narendra Prasad 04:37, 9 July 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Narendraaprasad (talkcontribs)

My above comment Why the facts are removed Further to that a lot of editing has been done. Some one does not want to reveal the facts about Ramnath Goenka and how he acquired the Indian Express in 1932. Now it is mentioned He launched The Indian Express in 1932 and created the Indian Express Group with various English and regional language publications and further it is only stated ,

In 1922, he moved to Madras as the agent for Sukhdevdoss Ramprasad[citation needed] on a salary of Rs. 30/- and took shelter with a family named Chaudhry which came from a village near to his native Mandawa, at 23 Peria Naicker Street.0

With a salary of Rs.30/- in 1922 and acquiring Indian Express in 1932. ? The journey of 10 years and further 5 years is necessity to show the acquisition made by Ramnath.

The deleted parts are again proposed to be inserted without disturbing the present text and inserted is shown in Sand box.

place of birth: Darbhanga (Bihar) or Mandawa?

[edit]

According to the template:infobox person, the current article refers the state of Bihar as the "place of birth".

Can we indicate the city of Dharbanga as his birth place? There are on Internet three sources:

  • https://theprint.in/politics/ramnath-goenka-the-publisher-proprietor-with-a-journalists-instinct/129938/,* https://www.indianetzone.com/11/ramnath_goenka.htm/,
  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNu-pLG7VxQ, that at 1:00 shows a biographical panel information, written in English.

Darbhanga was also the previous location on WP until April 2018.

In in the WP article, Mandawa is referenced too, but without providing any external link.Micheledisaveriosp (talk) 15:30, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
