... that Rodrigo Maroni (pictured) proposed a bill sentencing offenders to life imprisonment for anyone who is found guilty of committing cruelty against animals?[1]ALT1:... that Brazilian politician Rodrigo Maroni (pictured) proposed a bill mandating that animal killers and rapists use electronic collars and that humans who commit sexual violence against animals be forcibly chemically castrated?[2]

- Hi there! I'll be happy to review this DYK nomination. I've done a few copyedits and will post here again once I've completed my review. Edge3 (talk) 03:01, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I've conducted my review. Article is new, long enough, and meets our core content policies. QPQ is satisfied, and image is fine.
- ALT0: The source is behind a paywall, so I can't verify. However, I'd suggest some rewording to provide more context for our global audience.
ALT0a: ... that Rio Grande do Sul legislator Rodrigo Maroni (pictured) proposed a bill that would have imposed life imprisonment to offenders who commit cruelty to animals?
- ALT1: I was able to view the source and verify the hook. (I can read Portuguese with limited proficiency.) However, the hook is too long (213 characters) so I propose an alternative.
ALT1a: ... that Rio Grande do Sul legislator Rodrigo Maroni (pictured) proposed bills that would have imposed electronic collars or chemical castration as punishment for murder, rape, or sexual abuse against animals?

- @Inter&anthro: Any thoughts or feedback? Edge3 (talk) 04:31, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Edge3: Thank you so much for your informative and helpful feedback! Both of the new hooks look fine to me, perhaps ALT1a since its citation is not behind a paywall. I'll try to see if there is any free source for the former hook. Inter&anthro (talk) 04:47, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Inter&anthro: Great! I also just realized something. Maroni was serving as a councillor of Porto Alegre at the time, so the bills applied only to the city, correct? We should probably reword it again. Would you say that "city councillor" is the appropriate translation of "vereador"?
- ALT0b: ... that as city councillor of Porto Alegre, Rodrigo Maroni (pictured) proposed a bill that would have imposed life imprisonment to offenders who commit cruelty to animals?
- ALT1b: ... that as city councillor of Porto Alegre, Rodrigo Maroni (pictured) proposed bills that would have imposed electronic collars or chemical castration as punishment for murder, rape, or sexual abuse against animals? Edge3 (talk) 05:01, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah that slipped my attention too. Yeah on google translate "vereador" comes up as "city councilor". On en.wikipedia "verador" redirects to "Alderman", which means something similar. I personally think city councilor is fine. Inter&anthro (talk) 05:21, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

ALT0b approved in good faith due to paywalled source. ALT1b approved, and I was able to verify the Portuguese-language source. Edge3 (talk) 05:53, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by to promote this but the article is an orphan. Please link it in at least one other Wikipedia article. Also, the birth date needs a cite. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:53, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: I added a link to two articles. I'm currently trying to find birth date. SL93 (talk) 19:47, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: I cited the birth date. SL93 (talk) 19:53, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, SL93, but I don't see the page you linked to; maybe it needs to be archived. I added a full sentence with his birthdate and birthplace to the article, with a cn tag. Yoninah (talk) 20:12, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah Instead of fixing the link, I added a new reference which states his birth date and birth city. The source has Porto Alegre for his birth city and doesn't state Brazil anywhere, but I'm thinking that shouldn't matter. SL93 (talk) 20:21, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
- @SL93: Thank you. Since Porto Alegre is only in Brazil, it's fine. Restoring tick per Edge3's review. Yoninah (talk) 20:27, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
