Encyclopedia article or highway review?

[edit]

This article seems more like something you'd find in a magazine talking about a highway. Lines such as "drivers can get off at XYZ exit" shouldn't be in the article. It also seems like it was written as someone was literally driving down the highway at the time and really needs to be more organized. I fixed the Infoxbox, but the article itself needs more touchup. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Crashintome4196 (talkcontribs) 23:41, 30 October 2006 (EST).

Article cleanup

[edit]

This article isn't that bad, but IMO it could use some cleanup. The Route Description is pretty rambling, rather subjective at parts, it goes off on some unnecessary tangents (like the network affiliations of the TV stations carried by the Roxborough antenna farm!) and intermixes history that would better belong in the History section. The History section also has the potential to be beefed up big time, the Schuylkill's got a pretty storied history. Let's work towards getting all Philly-area highways to GA or better! Agreed, though i live 56 miles north of Philly. I like this route so i want ot make the article better. -- JohnnyAlbert10 0:25, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Old exit numbers

[edit]

I see in the Conshohocken exit picture that the highway once used a different exit number system. Perhaps these should be included in the exit table: ELG has a provision for old exit numbers. —Scott5114 20:28, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure the old exit numbers are a good idea, PA switched to the current system way back in 2001, and has been removing the little "old exit" signs completely since at least 2003 (looks like Conshohocken exit was one of the few they missed; zoom in and you'll notice they're absent from the I-476 signs in the distance). Since the old exits seem to be officially phased out, it's probably best to leave them out. Krimpet (talk/review) 02:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think that inclusion of the old exit numbers is valid for several reasons. First, the agreed upon guidelines for exit lists call for inclusion of old exit numbers when applicable. Second, the exit lists of many other Pennsylvania Interstates, including I-70, I-76, and I-80, include the old exit numbers. Third, the old exit numbers are part of the history of the Expressway. I think this history should be included and inclusion in the exit list is a logical and easily readable means of presenting this information. VerruckteDan 03:12, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I guess if the other PA interstates all include the old exit numbers it makes sense to do so for the Schuylkill too for consistency's sake. Krimpet (talk/review) 03:42, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You'll Kill Expressway

[edit]

This highway is so legendary for being dangerous its known as the "You'll Kill Expressway" in Boston. If a Boston driver thinks a road is dangerous that is saying something. There should be more material than just the one sentence in this article spelling out just how dangerous the thing is. John Chamberlain (talk) 05:01, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It may be "legendary" in other parts of the country, but unless you can cite sources showing this is the case, it's nothing more than original research. Sorry, but until it can be cited, it can't stay, no matter how true it is. EaglesFanInTampa 13:47, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Philly-area slang term is "Sure-kill Distressway", but that's probably not worth including. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.92.234.100 (talk) 03:37, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Exit 329?

[edit]

I was driving on the Schuylkill westbound last night and noticed still-covered signs for a new exit 329. The exit 329 placard was visible but the rest of the sign was covered. This appears to be a westbound-only interchange, located between Gulph Mills and route 202. Does anyone have any information (ideally with sources) on this new interchange? My searches are coming up empty. --Clubjuggle T/C 13:23, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like the westbound on/off ramps for Gulph Mills are being demolished and moved a mile west in their entirety, according to this 2009 newspaper article. The new ramps will connect directly to Henderson Road but it remains unclear if the exit signs will be renamed to reflect this. Kb3edk (talk) 22:54, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment

[edit]
This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Schuylkill Expressway/GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

There are two major problems with this article:

  • There are entire paragraphs that are uncited.
  • There are several citations to self-published sources that need to be replaced with reliable sources.

I will leave this open for a week before demoting. I am happy to leave it open for longer if work is actively taking place. --Rschen7754 04:17, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

used to be PA 43

[edit]

"PA 43" on wikipedia takes us to Mon-Fayette Expressway in western Pa., but I have inserted a cross reference to that route number being used previously on the Schuylkill Expressway. See that article's talk page, too. Can someone insert a reference to Schuylkill Expressway being PA 43? (Yes, it was later signed as I-80S, and now as I-76.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.63.16.20 (talk) 19:13, 17 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"not built to contemporary standards"

[edit]

Of course it was built to contemporary standards, in the sense of meaning (1) of Wictionary, "from the same time period." It was built to the standards of the time period when it was built. If the point is that it was not built to third-millenium standards, "contemporary" is not the correct word. 72.94.96.167 (talk) 23:07, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
