[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 13:43, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- Propose deleting Category:People of Arab-Jewish descent (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Propose deleting Category:Brazilian people of Arab-Jewish descent (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Propose deleting Category:Canadian people of Arab-Jewish descent (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Propose deleting Category:French people of Arab-Jewish descent (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Propose deleting Category:British people of Arab-Jewish descent (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Propose deleting Category:American people of Arab-Jewish descent (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: The term "Arab-Jewish" simply combines Jewish descent with being from Arab countries. This grouping is loosely based on whether a country is part of the Arab League or mostly speaks Arabic. "Arab-Jewish" isn't a specific ethnicity, unlike groups like Sephardi or Mizrahi Jews. Yorkporter (talk) 21:10, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Support in principle per nom, but merge to Category:Brazilian people of Jewish descent etc. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:05, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 04:23, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Fernández de la Cueva to Category:???
- Nominator's rationale: I'm not sure if this is supposed to be an eponoymous category Francisco Fernández de la Cueva, 2nd Duke of Alburquerque or if the entire family is called Fernández de la Cueva. I think that this category should be renamed to reflect either the family name or merged to Spanish nobility. Mason (talk) 04:50, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- Just delete, it largely overlaps with Category:Dukes of Alburquerque. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:50, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 13:47, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: delete, redundant category layer with only one subcategory. Merging is not necessary as the content is still in another subcategory of each of the parent categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:56, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- Support per nom, but if other pages can be added, then I'd support keeping the category. (I looked, but couldn't find any). Mason (talk) 06:36, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- There is e.g. Berenguer de Palou II but still the category wouldn't make too much sense after the County of Barcelona was incorporated in the Crown of Aragon a century earlier. There is also no other category of this kind. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:42, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

- Propose upmerging Category:Italic archaeology to Category:Archaeology in Europe
- Nominator's rationale: Redundant layer 1C 0P. Item already in other two parent cat trees. NLeeuw (talk) 07:13, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:2015 IIHF Women's World Championship to Category:2015 IIHF Women's World Ice Hockey Championships
- Nominator's rationale: Harmonizing subcategory names in the Category:IIHF Women's World Ice Hockey Championships. Maiō T. (talk) 16:23, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- Comment While I support the initiative to harmonize subcategory names, I don’t support the selected naming format and would prefer to change the parent category name before altering the subcategories. The tournament is called the "IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship" in all official IIHF documentation and I strongly feel we should be using that nomenclature, rather than "IIHF Women's World Ice Hockey Championships." Spitzmauskc (talk) 23:05, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- Okay Spitzmauskc, I'm withdrawing this proposal. I realized that those new names are not good. Let's move the Category:IIHF Women's World Ice Hockey Championships first. And then we would harmonize these subcategories. Maiō T. (talk) 20:35, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: delete per WP:NARROWCAT. The league itself was around for only one season (in 1904) and, according to the article, had five notable players. So this isn't going to grow. Omnis Scientia (talk) 19:15, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Tennis players from Idaho to Category:Sportspeople from Idaho
- Nominator's rationale: Categories have only have two and one article respectively (already in appropriate categories in Category:American tennis players); if there are more articles on tennis players from Idaho and Delaware then these can be recreated in the future but, for now, merge to parent cat. - The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Medieval Serbian people. (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 20:02, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Non-defining intersection between era of birth AND nationality AND country of descent Mason (talk) 03:32, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Single merge to Category:Medieval Serbian people. Quite a few articles do not mention anything about descent and the other articles are already in a Byzantine category, which is more appropriate than Greek. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:58, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Films about diseases to Category:Films about diseases and disorders
- Nominator's rationale: I don't understand why we have two such similiar categories. I'm finding articles put in both categories. Either the categories need to be renamed to make their distinction clear or one needs to be merged into the other. Liz Read! Talk! 01:41, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Support per nom. I think we should leave a redirect to prevent this from happening again. Mason (talk) 03:33, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect, unclear distinction between diseases and disorders. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:00, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect per Marco. Omnis Scientia (talk) 09:56, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Comment There might even be an argument that these are two distinct things and there should be two separate categories, Category:Films about diseases which is about physical health and Category:Films about disorders which primarily seems to be about mental health conditions. Liz Read! Talk! 00:50, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- That distinction would be better accomplished by a subcat of Films about diseases, and seeing as we already have Category:Films about mental health and Category:Films about mental disorders, it is done. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 06:26, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: upmerge for now. only one page in here, which isn't helpful for navigation Mason (talk) 01:35, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Merge but the whole Category:Bishops from Galicia (Spain) does not make sense either. Galicia was an independent state for only short periods, not throughout the entire middle ages. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:03, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
