- Comment: A number of the sources make little/no mention of the publishing house, so notability is not established. Promotional claims such as "emerged as a prominent voice within the Salafi movement" cannot simply be sourced to the subject's own website. Greenman (talk) 10:09, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
Salafi Publications is an Islamic publishing house and educational institute that focuses on promoting orthodox Sunni Islam in adherence to the Salafi methodology. Established in the late 20th century by Abu Khadeejah Abdul-Wahid, Bilal Davies and Abu Idrees Muhammad. Salafi Publications has emerged as a prominent voice within the Salafi movement, advocating for a return to the pristine teachings of Islam as understood by the salaf (pious predecessors).Salafi Publications, also known as Spubs, was founded to counter the extremist beliefs of the Muslim Brotherhood, Qutbism, Hizb ut-Tahrir and Sururists, who are all accused of khuruj. It combats the ideologies of extremist organisations including Islamic State and Al-Qaeda.[1]
Controversies
Criticism from Scholars
Respect Salafi Shaykh, Dr. Wasiullah Abbas of Umm al-Qura University in Makkah, warned against SPubs founder Abu Khadeejah in his writings and in his fatawa (rulings). He says about a Spubs lecture:
"I do not advise the brothers to attend this seminar, especially if Abu Khadeejah and others are going to be there." "You will see that if they are given the opportunity to address the people, they will divert them from the understanding of Salafiyya."[2] However, there is lack of evidence which support Sheikh Wasiullah's arguments against Abu Khadeejah.
Accusations of Extremism
Due to their rigid interpretations and outspoken criticism of other Islamic groups, SPUBS has sometimes been accused of promoting an intolerant and divisive version of Islam. These accusations have been a source of tension, especially in the context of counter-extremism efforts in the UK.[3]
Ban on Running Schools
In June 2022, Abu Khadeejah was banned from managing independent schools in the UK. The Department for Education cited his dissemination of views that were deemed to undermine fundamental British values, such as individual liberty and respect for the rights of others. Specifically, his sermons and writings included content that was considered misogynistic and homophobic.[4][5]
