Development

Salman Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala have a long history of successful collaborations spanning three decades, with notable films like Jeet, Judwaa, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Jaan-E-Mann and Kick. Their most recent collaboration, Kick (2014), was a major hit and also served as Nadiadwala's directorial debut.[6] After a decade, they are reuniting for a high-budget action film directed by A.R. Murugadoss.[6][7] AR Murugadoss initially pitched Ghajini to Salman Khan in 2006, but it took 18 years for the duo to collaborate.[8] This collaboration has been in discussion for some time and both Nadiadwala and Murugadoss agreed that Salman Khan was the ideal choice for the lead role.[6][7]

The official announcement of Sikandar was made by Salman Khan on Instagram during Eid, where he expressed his excitement about collaborating with AR Murugadoss and Sajid Nadiadwala.[9] The film is presented by Sajid Nadiadwala and is set for an Eid 2025 release.[9] The film, described as a global action entertainer,[7] will be filmed across multiple countries, including Portugal, other European nations and India, throughout 2024.[6][7][10] With a production budget of Rs 100-400 crore,[6] this project is Nadiadwala's most ambitious to date.[6][7]

AR Murugadoss is set to manage two projects as he is also working on a Tamil action film tentatively titled SKxARM, featuring actor Sivakarthikeyan.[9][1] Filming for SKxARM is expected to continue until June 2024, causing Murugadoss to divide his time between the two films during this period.[9][1] A source revealed that Murugadoss aims to complete significant portions of SKxARM before starting Sikandar.[9][1] After the initial schedule for Sikandar in May, Murugadoss plans to return to finish SKxARM in June and then focus entirely on Sikandar from July onward.[9][1]

The film's official title, Sikandar, was announced on 10 April.[11]

Casting

In May 2024, Nadiadwala Grandson announced on Twitter that Rashmika Mandanna would star alongside Salman Khan in Sikandar, which also marks their first collaboration.[12] The film's cast includes of actor Sathyaraj who began filming for Sikandar alongside Prateik Babbar and Suniel Shetty.[13][14] The production house shared a photo of Sathyaraj and Prateik with director Murugadoss.[13][5]

Filming

Principal photography began with the first schedule on 19 June, 2024.[15][16]

Music

Music composer and singer Pritam has been confirmed to score the music for the film. This marks his sixth collaboration with Salman Khan, following their work together on Ready (2011), Bodyguard (2011), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Tubelight, and Tiger 3. The announcement was made by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the production banner of the film.[17]
