"The Bushwhackers" Luke Williams & Butch Miller

The Bushwhackers were a professional wrestling tag team that also competed as The Sheepherders. They wrestled in the World Wrestling Federation and Jim Crockett Promotions.

History

Luke Williams and Butch Miller started wrestling as The Kiwi Sheepherders in New Zealand in 1964. They had a lot of regional success.

In the 1970s, Butch quit the team and went to Australia. Luke started teaming with Jonathan Boyd in his absence.

Butch returned to team with Luke as "The Sheepherders" in the United States in the early 1980s and they feuded with Mark and Chris Youngblood, The Fantastics and the "Fabulous Ones" (Stan Lane & Steve Keirn).

In late 1988, The Sheepherders were on the verge of winning the NWA United States Tag Team Titles when they quit Jim Crockett Promotions for a better money offer from the World Wrestling Federation. They changed their name to The Bushwhackers and changed their violent style to a comedic style and were instant hits with the fans. The comedy act involved licking, arm motions and more.

While in WWF, they had feuds with the Brain Busters, "The Bolsheviks" (Boris Zhukov & Nikolai Volkoff), the Beverly Brothers (Mike Enos & Wayne Bloom), Well Dunn and The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques Jr. & Raymond Rougeau). Their matches were mostly mid-card.

In the Royal Rumble 1991 Luke set a record, lasting a total of 4 seconds in the event. Using the trademark arm-swing entrance, he climbed into the ring, walked across in a straight path, and was thrown over the top rope by Earthquake.

They left in mid 1996 to open up a restaurant and they had also wrestled on the independents. They returned to the WWF in 2001 for the gimmick battle royal at WrestleMania X-Seven.

They are both now retired.
