Explorer 7

What advantages does Explorer have over Firefox?SteveSims 08:00, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The main advantage of Internet Explorer over other browsers, including Firefox, is its near-perfect compatibility with websites. Another advantage is that IE is included in numerous versions of Microsoft Windows, saving a Windows user the hassle of downloading and installing an alternative browser. Themodernizer 14:41, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I stayed with Explorer longer than most, but since quit using it I've had no problems rendering sites in Firefox. Firefox takes only five minutes to install and is way faster than even Explorer 7. I used Explorer 7 a few days ago and it didn't display Microsoft's site properly. (See [1]) SteveSims 18:58, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with Microsoft's website can be fixed by refreshing the page. Themodernizer 01:07, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit to Windows XP

I reverted your edit in Windows XP. I uploaded the example unsigned visual style because Adambonneruk is saw the screenshot and posted me in my talk page. So please do not revert it again so I will not violating a three-reverting rule. Thanks. — Jigs41793 Talk 06:26, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop removing the visual style UXTHEME.dll screenshot from the Windows XP page. It is a legitimate screenshot, unless you can provide a proper reason for its non-inclusion on the talk page. Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you. —Vanderdeckenξφ 09:24, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removing text with named references

Please be careful when removing text with references like this: <ref name="...">{{stuff}}</ref>. Usually these are further references using this linked resource, that will only be marked with <ref name="..." />. If you are removing one reference but not the other, you should move the citation text inside the reference tags to the next use of that named reference to ensure that it shows up. Thanks! Screenshots

When are screenshots necessary and/or appropriate? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 03:00, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshots are appropriate when they illustrate the topic of discussion. Certain articles, such as Features new to Windows Vista, incorporate numerous topics; however, there is limited room for screenshots. Therefore, screenshots that create spaces should be removed. Themodernizer 03:29, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Themodernizer. Thanks for uploading Image:Windows Media Player 11 XP.png. I replaced the screenshot with visualization so that the screenshot looks better. In the past, from that prior image (originally uploaded by Harryboyles) is helping me to take the screenshot with the default desktop background and theme for Windows XP running with WMP 11. So please create a screenshot with default theme and background of Windows XP next time. Thank you. Jigs41793 Talk 13:29, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop reverting of old version image for your uploaded image. Jigs41793 Talk 22:57, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The new screenshot is not using the default Windows XP theme or background. Moreover, the old screenshot only shows the application. Therefore, the old screenshot is preferred. Themodernizer 23:28, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Windows Task Manager 5536.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Windows Task Manager 5536.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Windows Vista screenshots

Let me know what you think. :-) User talk:Warrens#Windows Vista screenshotsAlex (T|C|E) 05:52, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revert? Why?

Can I ask why you reverted the windows vista image? It was fine, The windows aero was quite visible, and it showed the original boot quite well.. Ard0 (Talk - Contribs) 05:59, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The original image depicted Windows Vista Ultimate (as opposed to Windows Vista Home Premium), and was at a lower resolution. There was no purpose in using a higher resolution. Themodernizer 13:16, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Windows Vista Taskbar image

Hiya, I noticed you'd put in a new taskbar image, from Windows Vista, into the taskbar article, this is probably a good thing! However, personally I feel it would illustrate the concept better if there were open applications listed on the taskbar instead of just an empty one. Since I don't use Windows at all anymore (am a Linux girl), I certainly can't do this myself, but I'm assuming you have a copy of Vista to be generating these screenshots, so a second one would be good :) and yay for preserving the width of 800 I'd put in before, I do feel it makes things tidier and as an actual used screen resolution, better. Of course, if I can find a screenshot of a Vista taskbar with buttons myself I may just replace it...also I don't think it quite looks tidy having the taskbar screenshot where you moved it so I'm gonna change it back to it's original position...take care :) Xmoogle 14:18, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Control Panel Vista.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Control Panel Vista.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. AlistairMcMillan 09:26, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Morning. I noticed you reverted the Windows Home Server page to correct some vandalism. Unfortunately you rolled back past a correction I made to the devices it is capable of streaming to, which meant that point ended up incorrect. Someone else updated it to match my edit after. Not a big problem, but I thought I ought to point it out, as for a while, there was an incorrect feature point! --Blowdart 06:56, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Windows Internet Explorer 7 Vista.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Windows Internet Explorer 7 Vista.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Revision wars

There is a large revision war going on when uploading images. I have now placed this admonition to discourage users from uploading and reverting it.

This image has been repeatedly reverted by several users (see below). Anyone uploading this image may possibly trigger a revision war. Such users who do this will be blocked without further warning.

Image discussion

Hey, I got the WMP 11 XP screenshot fully protected and I started up a discussion on the talk page so we can find a resolution to this problem. As someone who's been involved with the issue, your thoughts would help. See: Image talk:Windows Media Player 11 XP.png#Protected. Thanks. -/- Warren 17:14, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, by any chance do you have Windows Desktop Search on Windows XP? The WDS article could surely do with a screenshot? :) Regards, --soum (0_o) 07:00, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

oh, i checked the history. You use window clippings. thanks anyway. --Ysangkok 13:51, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to report to the administrators for you. At this time, my version of the image of Image:Windows Media Player 11 XP.png is good - no theme customizations, no distracting brackgrounds which are copyrighted materials, etc. It is possible can you please keep my version of the screenshot as is so that I will not violating 3-revert Rule.
