The 2006/2007 season of the Eredivisie began on August 18, 2006 and will end on May 13 2007.

Since 1991 the annual opening of the new football (soccer) season is played between the reigning champions and the Cup Winners of the previous season. The Cup was named PTT Telecom Cup for three years (1991-1993), then Super Cup and since 1996 the trophy played for is officially called the "Johan Cruijff Schaal", named after Dutch football legend Johan Cruijff.
