Beyoncé Knowles has written the song, along with Rich Harrison who has also wriiten "Suga Mama" and many more songs. Angela Beyincé has co-wrote this songs and also co-wrote the songs of "T-Shirt", "Girl" and "Free On" (when Beyoncé was with in the group, Destiny's Child) from their last studio album, Destiny Fulfilled and The Pink Panther soundtrack Check on It. Naughty Girl", "Be With You", "Speechless", "Can't Take No More", and "My Man" from Beyoncé's debut album, Dangerously in Love. "Kiss Me" from Cassie's album, has am sample from Destiny's Child song "T-Shirt". On Beyoncé's latest album B'Day Deluxe Edition she has co-written "Upgrade U", "Get Me Bodied (Extended Mix)",and "Freakum Dress". Also Miriam Makeba has co-wrote the song and also co-wrote the song called "Suga Mama".

This music video of "Freakum Dress" Tina made thirty dresses including eight for Beyoncé, were made for the 12-hour shoot. Sometimes Tina Knowles would have to make dresses on the spot. Beyoncé borrowed the glasses she wears at the podium from her makeup artist, Francesca. The music video was directed by Ray Kay, and Beyoncé co-directed the music video.

The music video starts with Beyoncé in front of the mirriors, while two guys put an dress on her, then Beyoncé starts dancing with the "models". In every scence their dresses keep changing, then being at the stage walking the lane, then they dances on a diffrent stage, then Beyoncé sings an verse, while like an speech meeting.

This music video has not been priemered on MTV's first look Total Request Live except the video is on MTV website, but not on MTV television. Also it has not been on BET's 106 & Park. The music video was on Beyoncé's video album, B’Day Anthology Video Album, it was released on April 3, 2007 in the US.
