Rolesville is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 907 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.2 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 907 people, 353 households, and 265 families in the town. The population density was 557.4 people per square mile (214.8/km²). There were 384 housing units at an average density of 236.0/sq mi (91.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 84.01% White, 8.49% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 5.73% from other races, and 1.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.95% of the population.

Of the 353 households 35.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.3% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.9% were non-families. 20.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 2.94.

In the town the population was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 33.1% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 105.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $46,838, and the median income for a family was $57,813. Males had a median income of $41,932 versus $24,018 for females. The per capita income for the town was $21,092. About 10.9% of families and 12.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.8% of those under age 18 and 3.4% of those age 65 or over.

As with surrounding Wake County, North Carolina, the City of Rolesville was experiencing rapid growth both before and after the 2000 census. An estimate made by the town government, based on approved developments, projected the population to be 7,813 residents by 2010. [1] The North Carolina State Demographics Unit estimated the 2005 population to be 1,742 residents, a growth rate of over 92% over the 2000 census figure.[2]

Geology

Rolesville is the namesake of the Rolesville Granitic Batholith, also known as the Rolesville Pluton. While the batholith extends into regions north and south of Wake County, the bedrock formation is particularly visible in the form of rocky outcrops within the City of Rolesville and the immediate vicinity.
