Biography
Early life
Chen was born in Vancouver, Canada. He was a student at R.C. Palmer Secondary School in Richmond, British Columbia in Canada and also attended High School in Hong Kong International School.[1] He was in the same class as Nicholas Tse in 10th Grade, however he didn't finish his high school year; flunking out after the completion of grade 11. Edison spent much of his life living in Vancouver and New York City, which contributes to his fluency in the English language.
Career
In 1999, a scout approached Chen while he was demonstrating his 'Crouching-Tiger-Hidden-Dragon-Style' with his friend in Hong Kong and asked him to film a commercial. From then on, he was introduced into the Hong Kong entertainment circle where he immediately gained immense popularity for his attractive appearance and especially adored by girls for his mischievous smile.
He has starred in many popular films including Infernal Affairs, Infernal Affairs II, Initial D and Dog Bite Dog. His latest film is Trivial Matters".Determined on expanding his horizons beyond Hong Kong, he also starred as the male lead in the Japanese drama Under the Same Moon. His newest film (filming unstarted) is going to allow him to collaborate once again with Gillian Chung, Stephy Tang & Shawn Yue. He is featured on m-flo's album, Cosmicolor, on the track "LOVE ME, HATE THE GAME" with Chan, Thaitanium and Ryohei Yamamoto.
Edison's foray into the fashion industry accompanied his rising success as a young pop icon. Edison, along with partners Kevin Poon and Billy Ip, became the founders of CLOT Inc., a clothing company described as a "lifestyle company" that is geared toward youth culture, and bringing street fashion to China and Hong Kong.[2] The company has collaborated with many big clothing companies, such as Nike and A Bathing Ape.
In February, 2007, he invested $10 million HKD to open his own multi-media company, Clot Media Division, which plans to produce movies, commercials and music albums. In June, 2007, he released a Mandarin album, 讓我再次介紹我自己 (Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself) with tracks produced by Kanye West, Just Blaze and Clinton Sparks. His song 記得我嗎? (Remember Me?) contained words of criticism towards his old music company, EEG.
Edison will make a cameo appearance in the upcoming film The Dark Knight as a villain but it hasn't been released as to which villain he's playing.
Personal life
As of 2007, he has announced publicly to dating Vincy Yeung for three years, niece of EEG founder, Albert Yeung. He always expresses his love to Vincy on his blog these days. His past relationships supposedly include Bobo, Gillian and Rachel Ngan (an actress who co-casted with him during Gen-Y cops).
In March, 2004, two male teenagers assaulted Chen in Central District of Hong Kong.[3] The two teenagers mocked Chen by with dance moves outside a record store.[4] Immediately following the dance taunt, both of the teenagers punched Edison Chen.[4] Upon doing so the two teenagers fled the scene, and Chen gave chase. Chen eventually caught up to the two individuals as they were trying to board a bus.[4] They were turned over to Hong Kong Police. As a result of the incident, Chen reported that he sprained his ankle and that his cheekbone and ear were also injured.[4] Chen declined to press charges and the two individuals were released.[4]
Chen was caught in a naked photo scandal in January 2008 [1]
