Saliva

Saliva is a Rap Rock band who makes use of grunge techniques as well as a bit of nu metal on their older albums, though they still incorporate rapped verses to a degree. The band was originally founded in September 1996 in Memphis, Tennessee. Sliva has the same style as P.O.D. and Limp Bizkit involving Rapcore and Hard Rock

Biography

Memphis, with a rich tradition and musical history, was the perfect place to nurture the hard rock/post-grunge/heavy metal sound of Saliva. The radio-friendly hard rock music the band created struck a chord with audiences. After competing in the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Grammy Showcase competition, where they advanced to the final round in New York City, the group self-released their self-titled debut album which sold over 10,000 copies in their region, prompting Island Records to take notice. Their Island debut Every Six Seconds was released in 2001, followed by Back Into Your System in 2002, which included the chart topping hits 'Always', and 'Rest In Pieces' co-written by James Michael and Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe. The band toured in 2003, opening for Kiss and Aerosmith.

On May 29, 2005, guitarist Chris D'abaldo announced he had left the band "for obvious reasons, as the band is not a unit anymore." He then shortly retracted his statement and apologized, declaring on the band's website that "there was a bit of an issue we're working through and we're looking forward to recording a new album later this year". [1] However, band's website currently apologizes yet again for the confusion and confirms that due to "creative differences", D'abaldo is in fact leaving the band, but that Saliva "is completely moving forward as planned and [has] our best music ahead of us".

Shortly after the departure of D'abaldo, Jonathan Montoya replaced him in the lineup.

Saliva released a new album on January 23, 2007 titled Blood Stained Love Story. The single, titled "Ladies & Gentlemen" has been released to radio stations and has made it to #2 (from Billboard.com) on the US Mainstream Rock charts. It is currently included as the background music for Sony's commercials for the PlayStation 3, and can also be heard in on their MySpace profile. The second single released off of the album was "Broken Sunday", which has reached #8 on the mainstream rock chart, and is frequently on the Sirius top 20 on Octane. It has been said by Saliva's tour manager Chris, that the new single off Blood Stained Love Story will be Track 4 "King of the Stereo".

Musical Style

The range of musical styles played by Saliva is very wide and changes (sometimes drastically) from album to album, and even from song to song within the albums. While Saliva is probably best classified simply as alternative rock or hard rock, because they have explored so many other genres, it would not be entirely wrong to classify them as any number of genres including (but not limited to): nu metal, rock'n'roll, southern rock, mainstream rock, pop rock, post-grunge, or alternative metal.
