Song |
"The Way I Are" [sic] is the second single from Timbaland's second album, Shock Value. The song features R&B singer Keri Hilson and rapper D.O.E., both of whom are signed to Timbaland's Mosley Music Group label. It was released digitally worldwide in May 2007.
The song's base synths are similar to the synths from Justin Timberlake's "My Love" (co-written by Timbaland), though the main melody synth is recorded with modulation automations which differ in the verses and chorus. The beat is sampled from the Salt-n-Pepa song Push It.
The song is featured in a 2007 McDonald's commercial; it not only plays in the background, but the viewer sees at the beginning a DJ loading the "The Way I Are" record onto a turntable.[citation needed]
The song was also featured on Dancing with the Stars when Spice Girls member Melanie Brown performed her freestyle dance to the live band's version of the song with her professional partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
The song is on the soundtrack of NBA Live 08 on all consoles.
Music video
The music video for the song was shot in the City of Salford in Greater Manchester, UK, on May 18, 2007. It was directed by Shane Drake.[2] Drake commented on the video and said:
I like to tell stories with my videos — and Timbaland’s new video is going to be unlike any other. Utilizing the tools of incendiary cinematography and fierce lighting schemes, I plan to sculpt an edgy masterpiece, oozing with style and impact. With each rhythmic pulse and beat we will time crafty edits, sharp as tacks and smooth as steel. This video is going to be an artistic expression of Timbaland's music. As an added element of force and velocity, we will follow Timbaland as he cruises around the city. From the colors, to the wardrobe — to the edits, we will craft a slick masterpiece that defies genre and truly defines cool.[2]
The video version includes an extra verse from Timbaland's brother Sebastian. This verse was added to 'pad out' the song, as the album version of the song has an elongated period of time in which nothing but the beat is played.[3] Though being unusual for American music video productions, the video world premièred and received its first official airing on June 15 on the German music television channel VIVA.
The video also includes three freestyle football players. A "director's cut" of the video is now on YouTube and it features Timbaland in an black cab and shows him in a more casual perspective.
The music video has received over 39.2 million views on YouTube.

Chart performance
On the issue date of June 16, 2007, the single debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number seventy-eight, peaked at number three for four non-consecutive and spent nineteen consecutive weeks inside the top ten (just two weeks less than Fergie's massive number one hit single "Big Girls Don't Cry"). [4] "The Way I Are" has also spent three consecutive weeks at number one on the Pop 100, becoming one of the very few number three singles to top the chart, and has also become Timbaland's second number one on this chart.
In the UK, "The Way I Are" debuted at number eighteen on the UK singles chart, and later peaked at number one for two consecutive weeks, spending so far a total of twenty-three weeks on the chart. The song has also peaked at number one for five consecutive weeks in Ireland, thanks to its success in the UK, and has also peaked at number two for two non-consecutive weeks in New Zealand, spending a total of twenty-one weeks on the chart. Here it was the 3rd biggest song of 2007, just behind "Umbrella" by Rihanna (1) and "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie (2). The song has also peaked at number four in Austria, and number five in Germany, where it is Timbaland's second top five hit in both nations. In France, a mix of the song featuring French singer Tyssem was released, and peaked at number two becoming Timbaland's highest peaking single there also.
"The Way I Are" has also peaked at number one on the Canadian Hot 100 and the European Hot 100 Singles Chart, as well as peaking at number one in countries such as Norway and Israel. The song has also become Timbaland's highest peaking single thus far in the Netherlands where it peaked at numbet four.
The song has also become a major hit in Australia where it reached number one, and became Timbaland's first top ten entry on the charts (not counting a plethora of collaborations). The single has become so successful that it managed to revive interest in not only Timbaland's latest album, Timbaland Presents: Shock Value, but also his two previous singles "Give It to Me" and "Throw It on Me", with "Give It to Me" re-entering the Top 50 and "Throw It on Me" entering the Top 50 for the first time. On the United World Chart, "The Way I Are" has peaked at number two, and was at that point Timbaland's most successful single on this chart, until "Apologize" peaked at number one in November 2007. Timberland currently as of 1st December has two songs in the top 5 in Australia. "Apologize" is currently number one and "The Way I Are" is number two. There aren't many artists that have accomplished this in Australia, i.e. having both number one and number two spots at the same time.
A remix was released shortly after the song was released. Some fans have said Axwell did this remix, but others claim it was done by Zya & Bada. It is unknown who remixed this track.

Song |
The Way I Are(I.R. Remix) was a remixed version of Timbaland's song The Way I Are. The song was recorded to be DJ I.R.'s second single off his album DJ I.R. Remixes. The song was released as a sinlge during DJ I.R.'s release of his album.
Music Video
The video was created out of Timbaland's original version of The Way I Are. Only this song was remixed off the album version of the song. So the video did not include Sebastin in the video like Timbaland did.
