Election

maybe at the project there should be an election for the co-ordinator of the project, the military history project does that, and it has really made a good impact on the way that it is run. The co-ordinator would obviously answer to a council of members on policy based issues, maybe we could do what they did in rome, and have people elected onto the council, maybe if you were to put that idea onto the newsletter it would give some idea as to the interest that people would have on that subject. Thanks DangerTM (talk) 07:24, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you saying that people are offering their support in a purely superficial way? By saying they will do something and then just leaving, but there are like 200 or something editors that have joined. DangerTM (talk) 08:48, 5 March 2008 (UTC) How?[reply]
It is a complete mixture of people who sign up and appear to do little, others sign up and edit article rather than the project pages, some start work and stop, some don't give that much time to it, etc etc. etc. However there are a few who do stirling work and can always be depended on, you can normally tell who they are by the amount of editing they have done to project pages and talk pages. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:51, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Banquo

I recently reviewed this article because it was under GA nominations, i received a complaint from a member who said i didn't do it right, could you review it and then tell me what i did wrong, i declined the nomination, this is the talkpage Talk:Banquo DangerTM (talk) 11:41, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Newsletter issues

And how do i distribute to people's talk pages, maybe if we distributed to every talk page of every member of the project, just a suggestion. DangerTM (talk) 09:34, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All it would take is some fierce dedication, and as you were saying, you could use more members with that sort of determination, i would set aside the first saturday of each month and do it then. Dedication is the key, and how would i tip to the newsletter? I think the election council is a good idea, maybe i should put it on the general discussion page. DangerTM (talk) 10:14, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I mean how do i contribute to it, and one question, did you start the project? you seem to be the most involved. DangerTM (talk) 10:46, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have done it, i contributed, although i should probably learn the format a bit better, i mean, i did do english masters in university, so it would do to be thorough, DangerTM (talk) 11:20, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't tell me how old you were, where did you study, that sort of thing. DangerTM (talk) 11:40, 5 March 2008 (UTC), i just posted the definition of literature on that discussion as defined by the oxford dictionary, if you're interested. DangerTM (talk) 11:40, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet

I think I may be a suspect of a sockpuppet conspiracy, just because I like the sort of things as User:Tom.mevlie, it is quite weird, maybe you can help me out. Go to my user page and look at the top of it. Thanks. DangerTM (talk) 05:02, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply

Are you going to reply to my last post? It is really eating me up inside, I mean, the evidence is purely circumstantial, but still, this is slander, unsubstantiated slander, can I lodge a complaint or something? Because I think that if someone says this sort of thing about another user, there should be a place where I can complain. DangerTM (talk) 06:11, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heirachy

Well, I posted a discussion on the heirachy of the council, whether it should be three members and so on. I was also wondering if it should be just a president who has total control and a bunch of people who he answers to, which really stops that one president becoming a dictator in his own right, this would be bad for the project, but I think the main issue is getting enough editors who actually want to be a part of the system in that way, and also, how do I start an election or a voting section? Is it hard. But the response is good on the talk page so far, of the two people that have replied since I last checked it, both agree with me, although, one is you. But anyway, thanks. DangerTM (talk) 06:48, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks, that puts my mind to rest, which is good. It's 12:30AM over here, and i have to get up at like 7:15, got a hard day's drinking ahead of me, so I will probably be asleep when you reply, what did User:Tom.mevlie do anyway? DangerTM (talk) 13:27, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DangerTM

moved from User talk:Doug for unified discussion

You could certainly add the {{Sockpuppet|1=Tom.mevlie|Tom.mevlie}} to the new user's user page, and note to User:Pax:Vobiscum that the new user shares at least a few of the puppeteer's typological quirks, including not apparently being able to capitalize the word "I" any better than Tom or his other socks do. John Carter (talk) 19:06, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see no clear evidence that DangerTM is a sockpuppet of Tom.mevlie. That he has "some" similar interests and a "typological quirk" which in itself is not that uncommon, especially in the world of phone texting, doesn't mean they are one and the same. I think we need more evidence. I have adopted this user who appear very keen, and who appears to be largely constructive in their attitude. There are one or two ideas that run off wiki's philosophical track. However as clearly a new user who is constantly asking for technical advice and procedural guidance I can't see that this is likely to be an existing user "sockpuppeting". To that end I am going to remove the Tag, please suggest clearer evidence the the circumstantial. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:58, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Kevin, I have no problem with you removing the tag considering User:Pax:Vobiscum's thought that this might be a clean start; however, I would refer you to discussions at User talk:John Carter and User talk:Pax:Vobiscum for the further evidence you request. I would qualify this by saying, considering Pax:Vobiscum's comments - posted after I tagged the userpage on John's advice, that this is evidence they are the same user, not that DangerTM is a sockpuppet, since Tom.mevlie is no longer an active user.--Doug.(talk contribs) 14:39, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Literature

They want me to start my own task force focusing on great works, which will be hard, expecially in this day and age, considering that if a sample of twenty educated people was taken, and every book that they had ever read was tallied, you still wouldn't have all the great works read, how do you suggest that I go about it? DangerTM (talk) 10:04, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, esentially I am saying that, exactly, do you understand now where I am coming from?DangerTM (talk) 10:27, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Newsletter

The newsletter looks good, how long do you expect until it will be ready for distribution? And you seem to be missing the point somewhat, it is not about the best books and novels, it is about the ones that are worth most to society on the whole.DangerTM (talk) 10:20, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Will you send it to everyone? Meaning everyone who is a registered editor in the project, not just the ones who have said that they want it. DangerTM (talk) 10:26, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Everyone gets it (in link form) unless they have indicated they either don't want it, or want the full expansion of it. Other editor not part of the project sometimes request the newsletter in either linked or expanded form. The exception qualifications are found on the Project outreach page. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 10:30, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How do I start an election? It should more or less begin whenever the newsletter is sent out, it would be good to have a page for candidates to present themselves in time.DangerTM (talk) 10:42, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please Stop

In this edit you once again changed the reference header to footnotes. As we discussed at length above #Footnote per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (and common sense) When either of two styles is acceptable, it is inappropriate for an editor to change an article from one style to another unless there is a substantial reason to do so. Additionally on the article Is There No Place On Earth For Me?, that you changed the section header on there are no footnotes only references, so the version you changed to is not even acceptable and had there been any footnotes per Wikipedia:Layout#Standard appendices and descriptions as there are clearly references in the section you should have changed it to Notes and references. As you pointed out in your comment we are not working to a central directive, really only consensus, there is NO consensus for (or directive) to make this change you insist on continuing to make, please stop doing it. Jeepday (talk) 15:00, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well they are footnotes, pointing back to the article text that contain references to sources. They are just not pure references. Ok I'll leave it alone. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 15:13, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:AJQuinnell ManOfFire.jpg

Replaceable fair use Image:CraigThomas promo.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:CraigThomas promo.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 11:31, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't remove the replaceable fair use tags from disputed images. As it says above in bold letters, you can dispute it, but you need to do it without deleting the original replaceable fair use template." Thanks. --Mosmof (talk) 04:09, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for updating the WPNovels banner on the talk page for LL. I'm just curious, though – given the nearly unanimous negative reaction it's gotten, why is it of top importance? I assume it's the autobiographical elements? Cheers. – Scartol • Tok 15:39, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't give a "top" only a "high" which is appropriate (in my view) as a significant work ( if not universally acclaimed) from the canon of a highly significant and notable author like Balzac. Or do you disagree. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 15:44, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, my mistake. I don't necessarily disagree with the decision; more surprised. I agree that Balzac is significant, just that this is one of his less significant texts (aside from the autobiographical elements). I personally would put it at the mid level, but I'm fine with high. Your call. Cheers! – Scartol • Tok 15:50, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bit borderline - so followed your advice - thanks :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 15:53, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TedPearce promo.jpg

I have tagged Image:TedPearce promo.jpg as {{replaceable fair use}}. If you wish to dispute this assertion, please add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}} to the image description page and a comment explaining your reasoning to the the image talk page. Image:DavidRohl promo.jpg, Image:ProtoKaw promo.png, and Image:MartyGoetz promo.jpg have been similarly tagged. Mosmof (talk) 04:26, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Election

Good, everything seems to be in order, do you want to run? Do you think I should run? I would not be so forthright as to nominate myself without consulting people to understand if I have the required votes or not, I however would vot for you as chair or whatever. DangerTM (talk) 11:32, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am not entirely sure what you mean, do you mean that they will berate me with questions if I decide to run? Because if so, then that will be fine, but then again. I just updated my personal reading list, it is not on wikipedia though. It includes a fair few of the classics, something like 20 or so 2000 page novels, shouldn't be too hard. If you want the full list, just give me a yell. DangerTM (talk) 11:46, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Special edition newsletter

Were you planning on sending out a special edition newsletter, or something similar, to alert members about the Election? Not everyone watches the general forum and therefore might not know that nominations are only being taken until the 30th. Just an idea. :) María (habla conmigo) 12:58, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aha, three steps ahead of me. Very cool! María (habla conmigo) 13:02, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Novels - 1st Coordinators Election

An election has been proposed and has been set up for this project. Description of the roles etc., can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Coordinators. If you wish to stand, enter your candidacy before the end of March and ask your questions of anyone already standing at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Coordinators/May 2008. Voting will start on the 1st April and close at the end of April. The intention is for the appointments to last from May - November 2008. For other details check out the pages or ask. KevinalewisBot (talk) 13:08, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, you think I'd notice that blantant sign plastered on the page, and register the odd fact that no one else had voted... but no. :P Thanks. ~ Bella Swan 16:18, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just FYI

Election

Well it seems that we are up against each other, although my challenge will be to get recognised, it will be you who will win, but I still want to help. It does however seem justifying that my idea has become a reality, maybe I could assist you when you get elected, proof reading posts before you make them, that sort of thing, like a presidential aid. DangerTM (talk) 05:06, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You should really ponder my proposal, I would drop out of the race for the election, and even though I don't really represent much of a challenge, it is still one less candidate. ThanksDangerTM (talk) 09:02, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess so, are you going to ponder my idea? I thought it was a good one. I am feeling somewhat validated, because my idea has become a reality, it feels good. DangerTM (talk) 09:10, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Based on the current candidate count, we will all "succeed". Also the idea has still some way to run. It would be better to have more candidates, we need to see how the voting stage goes and we need to see how productive the working relationship and practices of any coordinators will be. Really we will see if the concept is good probably half way to November. I'm not sure how practically an "aid" would work. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:14, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You know what I mean, helpin out in a way that doesn't affect the way the project is run, I would be helping your vision, not producing my own.DangerTM (talk) 10:02, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is somewhat off the topic of the elctions, but I am writing a novella, I was wondering if you would be interested in reading what I have written so far? I write heaps of these stories, I worte one that was about 12 pages long when I finished it, I started editing it, got bored and moved on. So it would be good to get a second opinion from someone so that I can decide whether or not I want to continue working on it, otherwise I will just give up. DangerTM (talk) 10:15, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Novella

Both, I would be happy for you to edit it in anyway you see fit, where should I post it? In your sand box, or can you designate a particular portion of wikipedia to it?DangerTM (talk) 10:22, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, but I will be pretty annoyed if I see this years down the track in a book store.DangerTM (talk) 10:34, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Too late now, I am thinking of doing a doctorate in English language and literature at Oxford, I was wondering if you knew anything about that fine old institution?DangerTM (talk) 10:41, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford

Well, just let me add a side note, I wrote that story out of a series of four possible candidates for an extension two English paper when i was in year 11, we submitted the stories and the teacher was to view which ones had the most potential. How do you mean "Dumbing down"? Would I still be raking in 2 million a year if I did get an Oxford Doctorate? And I would of course have to leave the cosy little life I have down under, and move to England to study, which I think would be worth it, I would learn a lot.DangerTM (talk) 10:53, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Year 11 is the year before the final year of high school, they prepare you for the Higher School Certificate, and is probably the last point of call for people to say "Holy shit, I have to start to work" DangerTM (talk) 11:26, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin

I am not sure if you are not already an admin, but I was considering nominating you for adminship. The way I see it, if you get adminship, then we both reap the benifits, as does everyone affiliated with the project.DangerTM (talk) 06:16, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't follow quite what you were asking with the "is this blurb?" question. --Mr Wednesday (talk) 06:36, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, my text is definitely not copied from the "blurb", though it does follow the same general outline. I wasn't entirely sure what form was most appropriate for the "plot introduction" as opposed to the "plot summary", so I figured that something laying out the conflict of the book with a minimum of spoilers made the most sense, and that sort of content lends itself to a "blurb"-style format. --Mr Wednesday (talk) 14:07, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Election

woah man, it's getting heated on my end of the election, did you read my story yet?DangerTM (talk) 00:29, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
