Claim needs source

Regarding the claim "She was the first Vietnamese woman elected to public office in California in 2002." I'd like to see a source for that. "Public office" is so broad a term, I can't believe that given California's large Vietnamese population that no Vietnamese woman had been elected to a school board or city council *somewhere* in the state. 71.139.22.182 16:42, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Non-NPOV Sections

The following seems very opinionated. It seems like it was written by a member of the group that is trying to recall her:

The "Little Saigon" controversy. Madison Nguyen is currently under threat of recall by the public at large due to her lack of democratic support for the community position around the naming of a Vietnamese district in San Jose. The very community that once supported Nguyen now heads up the effort to expose and hold her accountable for a flawed record as an advocate for the community.

I rewrote that section based on a number of sources. I've also removed the following paragraph, which is equally non-neutral:

In just under two years, she became President of the Board of Education, during which time she advocated for more after-school programs for youth, implemented programs for parents to become more involved and active with the schools and the community, established more technological programs, and engaged in hiring a workforce to reflect the diverse district. Under her leadership, Franklin-McKinley School District opened up two new state-of-the-art schools. As well as being an active member of the Board of Education, Nguyen worked full time as an Associate Ombudsperson with the County of Santa Clara's office of Human relations, served as a member of the United Way of Silicon Valley Community Advisory Board, and the Asian American Community Advisory Council at San Jose State University. She also taught sociology and Vietnamese American Culture at both De Anza and Evergreen Valley community colleges.

It's a direct copy-and-paste of [4]. It could be paraphrased to the extent that it's no longer a copyvio, but it's also unduly self-promotional; we shouldn't reinsert any of that information unless third-party sources have found it worth mentioning. cab (talk) 07:25, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are works of the San Jose city government in the public domain the same way that California state government works are? If so, there's quite a few that could be used [5].
