Re: "Userbox"

Thanks. I created that one a few months back, when I was relatively new to HTML and the guidelines. The more and more I looked at it, the more I thought "This thing is so rididculously BITEy towards Toyota owners it's not even funny." And no, I haven't crushed any Toyotas with any dump trucks. :) --Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER 15:03, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your Miasolé deletion

The article didn't explain the notability of the company because I'd only got one paragraph into the article before you deleted it. The text did not breach any copyright.GreenForGo (talk) 16:27, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, apologies if the deletion seemed a bit harsh; we just generally delete all similarly created articles about companies that don't have any claims of notability. Generally speaking, if you want to add a biography, article about a company or web page, you should mention the claims of fame as early as you can. We get a lot of articles about companies and thus we have to have certain standards. Maybe you did have plans to add the claims to fame to the article; however, in many more cases, these articles are simply left to languish. And as for copyright infringement, as far as I could tell, you only rewrote one sentence - generally we try to delete all material that is copied from other sites and that is easy to replace with non-infringing material. That said, copyright problems weren't exactly severe in this case.
In any case, please remember that this deletion was mostly prevention against letting seemingly non-notable corporations languish among the articles. Feel free to rewrite and recreate the article if you feel it satisfies the notability criteria as described in WP:CORP. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 09:03, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ultima7-bg-guardian-exult.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Ultima7-bg-guardian-exult.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 02:16, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Betrayal at Krondor - story.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Betrayal at Krondor - story.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 18:38, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pseudoscience discretionary sanctions

Hi! As somebody who commented on a January proposal to place all articles related to homeopathy on article probation, I would greatly appreciate your input on a new proposal to help combat disruption that would scrap the probation and implement discretionary sanctions. I apologize for any intrusion, but this is to my knowledge the first time sanctions of this nature have been attempted to be enforced by the community, so I feel that a wide range of opinions is necessary. Thank you in advance for any comments you may make. east718 (talk) 19:00, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wwwwolf,

I noticed that you tagged WP:SALT and related pages as being superseded by newer WikiMedia functions. I hate to ask, but is there any way you could point me to some more resources about these functions? I can't find any good explanatory materials on the project, and the two items you linked to in the notice aren't particularly clear, so I'm wondering if it's not time to write another how-to. Thanks! --jonny-mt 15:35, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(Replied on talk page:)

There is some documentation of the page creation protection in Wikipedia:Protection policy#Creation protection.

Anyway, the functionality is rather simple and doesn't really need that extensive documentation anyway - the idea is that you just go in the "edit" page of a page that doesn't exist, and hit "Protect".

It'll look like this in the log:

  • 01:17, 15 February 2008 Wwwwolf (Talk | contribs | block) protected Matt allen ‎ (repeatedly created CSD A7 material [create=sysop] (expires 23:17, 14 March 2008 (UTC)))

You're probably thinking "it can't be that simple"; well, it is. I didn't believe it myself when I saw it. =)

Hope this helps! --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 09:05, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(G11: Blatant advertising)

Hello Wwwwolf,

I mistakenly copied the wrong article from my files into wikipedia. I have the correct article that abides by wikipedia's guidelines ready and would like to post.

Thank you,

Replaceable fair use Image:XaraLX-Screenshot.png

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:XaraLX-Screenshot.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? ViperSnake151 23:01, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Catskill Mountainkeeper

I know you deleted the page. Catskill Mountainkeeper is the first land based keeper and has received alot of press coverage. http://www.catskillmountainkeeper.org/news Is that not enough to warrant an entry? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramsayadams (talkcontribs) 19:03, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure - feel free to recreate the article if there really are lots of sources. Short articles that don't have a reasonable amount of details on why the subject is notable may get deleted; it's generally recommended to draft the article to have at least some extensive details when posting it. You can use your user space for drafts, too. Hope this helps! --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 19:10, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please assist with speedy deletion

Dear sir,

I am writing to you because I came across a problem with creating a wikipedia article. Recently I wrote two articles: "ReaSoft Converter" and "PDF Printer ReaSoft". Both of the articles have been speedy deleted, because "they seem to be blatant advertising ". However, I tried to dispute that fact with the editor on the articles talk pages, but he/she didn't reply or whatever. I believe that those two articles don't promote or advertise that products, I reviewed them several times and excluded all the facts that may be treated as advertising. They are both of informative kind, not promotive. However, while searching Wikipedia I saw several articles which may seem akin to those that I tried to post. (this one, for example - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FinePrint) Please assist me with solving this problem.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

- Best regards, Elena Sukhanova.
