Arcángel & De la Ghetto

Austin Santos, artistically known as Arcangel, and Rafael Castillo, artistically known as De La Ghetto, formed Arcangel & De La Ghetto, a Puerto Rican and Dominican duo that have been active from 2004 to 2007. Both artists were members of Zion's label, Baby Records, until Arcangel left, and found Flow Factory Inc.. Both artists are still friends, and are still active, but in separate ways. Arcangel is the most romantic, lyrical, and charismatic (he's famous "PRRAA!" have been spreaded all around P.R, D.R and USA, despite people arguing that Swizz Beatz was the originator and Arcangel just copied it), while De La Ghetto is more versatile he can rap in english and spanish and in addition can sing. Arcangel & De La Ghetto alongside Jowell y Randy are considered the future of the reggaeton genre.

Arcangel

Austin Santos, best known as Arcangel, was born in 1985, in the city of New York to Dominican & Puerto Rican parents. . His mother moved to Puerto Rico in the early 80s to realize her dream of singing by joining a Merengue group known as Las Chicas del Can-Can. Austin met a young man known in reggaeton as "De La Ghetto" and the two began working together. "Arcangel & De La Ghetto" although they are relatively new artists, have done well so far with hits like "Agresivo", "Sorpresa", and "Mi Fanática". They gained fame relatively quickly. Many people who have been listening to reggaeton since its beginnings in the early 90's criticize the duo, particularily Arcangel for being "cocky" and trying to engage older more established reggaeton stars in rap battles. Other people argue that his attitude is warranted because the duo is well known without having released their own album. A recent tiraera (rap battle) occured with another duo, Jowell & Randy. You can check out some videos of them talking about each other on Youtube!. This in fact was all a publicity stunt to promote their hit concert in Puerto Rico's Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot (Arcangel vs. Jowell y Randy), the concert went on to be a sold-out sensation. Arcangel, Jowell and Randy are all good friends.

De La Ghetto

Rafael Castillo conocido en el mundo artístico como De La Ghetto y Mr. Versatility, nació un 17 de septiembre en New York. Luego de haber vivido en Seattle y en Europa, su familia decide mudarse a Puerto Rico y siendo un adolescente reside en La Perla, Viejo San Juan. Hijo de Padre Dominicano y Madre Puertorriqueña, este joven artista ha logrado conquistar los corazones de sus fanáticas alrededor del mundo gracias a sus colaboraciones artísticas con Zion, Daddy Yankee, Héctor El Father, Jowell & Randy, Arcángel, Memphis Bleek, Don Omar, Mexicano, Tito El Bambino, Ivy Queen, Yaga & Mackie, Tego Calderón, Ñejo & Dalmata, Alexis & Fido, Voltio, entre otros. De La Ghetto se dio a conocer en el 2005 por su tema "Pégate" a dúo con Arcángel en la producción Sangre Nueva abriéndole las puertas y permitiéndole participar en producciones tales como: Sangre Nueva Special Edition, Zion & Lennox Motivando A La Yal Special Edition, Las Gárgolas 5: The Next Generation, Los Rompediscotecas, Luny Tunes Mas Flow: Los Benjamis, Dj Nelson Flow La Discoteka 2, Zion The Perfect Melody, Dj Rafy Mercenario The King of Remix, Jowell & Randy Casa De Leones, Yaga & Mackie La Reunión, Los Capos, Los Sicarios, entre otros. Ahora podremos disfrutar más de De La Ghetto ya que hace poco grabo su nuevo video “Sensación del Bloque” con Randy y artistas invitados, entre otros como; Aparentemente, Siente El Boom ( canción de Tito El Bambino y Randy) donde Jowell y De La Ghetto hacen participación también y con su nuevo corte promocional “Se” y "Your Body" en el que participó a dúo con Zion, el Remix de 5 Letras con Alexis & Fido y en un sencillo como solista titulado “Pa’ tras”, podemos ver una evolución más clara del artista del reggaetón al R&B y Hip-Hop, sin olvidar su dominio perfecto del inglés, sin mencionar el Remix de 5 Letras con Alexis & Fido y un sencillo como solista titulado “Pa’ tras”. Estas características le han permitido grabar junto a artistas de la talla de Nelly, Timbaland, Beenie Man, Lil Wayne, Akon, en sus planes futuros se encuentran grabar un tema con la agrupación Aventura, Toby Love y Robi “Draco” Rosa, entre otros. Actualmente está trabajando en una gira que incluye los siguientes países: Panamá, New York, Europa, Italia, Ecuador, Colombia, Sto. Domingo y todo Estados Unidos. El tiempo que pasa en la isla se resume en la creación de su disco como solista titulado Massacre Musical el cual promete ser un disco variado, bilingüe y bien “ghetto” y en el desarrollo de su película “Ghettologia”, la cual será grabada en La Perla y algunas barriadas de Puerto Rico.

  • No official CD's have been released by the duo, Flow Factory, was their upcoming album but was cancelled for contract disputes between Zion (owner of Baby Records) and Arcangel, whom wanted out of baby records to create his own label (Flow Factory inc.) The duo are still famous in Puerto Rico, for their smash-hit unreleased collaborations.
