New Masters is an album by singer/songwriter Cat Stevens. The album was released in December 1967 on the Deram record label. "The First Cut Is the Deepest" became a hit for Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crow and Keith Hampshire. Hampshire's version reached no.1 on the Canadian charts in 1973. The song has been covered by several other artists including P.P. Arnold, reggae singer Barbara Jones, and Duffy and the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, although it did little for Stevens himself.
