Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 is an association football video game in the Pro Evolution Soccer series by Konami. It has been announced that Lionel Messi will feature on the cover of the game in all regions.
Pro Evolution Soccer creator Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka has revealed that he's gone back to the drawing board for PES 2009 following the criticism of the 2008 edition. Seabass hasn't been content to rest on his laurels and had begun work on PES 2009 shortly after the release of the 2008 edition, where he promises a 'complete overhaul' of the game in absolutely every respect.
Release
Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 had been confirmed for release on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii and Xbox 360 in the third-quarter of 2008.[3]
W.E.N.B will be the first to playtest the game on August 18, 2008.[4]
Become a Legend
This is a new game mode in the PES series. In this the player gets to create a midfielder or a striker to control throughout his career, and catching the eye of other clubs to move higher up the league chain. Unlike FIFA's Be A Pro Mode, which has a time limit of 4 seasons, PES2009's version has an infinite number of seasons, a watered down version, called "Fantasista Mode", was seen in the PS2 version of J-League, a version of PES only released in Japan.
Cover
On August 1 2008, Konami announced that Lionel Messi will be on the game's cover [5]
Teams
So far, the only national teams that have been confirmed to be licensed are Argentina, Ivory Coast, Greece, Holland, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Turkey, Brazil, Spain and England although most nations from previous games are expected to return.[6] [citation needed]. Apart from that the teams are same as Pro Evolution Soccer 2008.

You are able to change the colours of the boots. A list of the added boots are:

Stadiums
There are some new stadiums in Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.
The new stadiums are:
- Anfield
- Wembley
- Old Trafford
- Stamford Bridge Stadium
- Emirates Stadium
- Estadio Mestalla
- Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium
- Luzhniki Stadium
- Ernst-Happel-Stadion
- Stade Gerland
- Stade Velodrome
- Stade Felix Bollaert
- Stadio delle Alpi
- Allianz Arena
- Amsterdam ArenA
- Estádio da Luz

Konami will get into further development for more stadiums.
It is thought that the Luzhniki and Ernst-Happel Stadia have been included mainly on the basis that they have both recently staged major football events, these being the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Euro 2008 finals respectivley. In UEFA Euro 2008 the Tivoli Neu stadium also hosted several group D matches.
Leaks
[7] On July 23, 2008 there was a huge leak of information posted by Pro Evo Live League UK The leak had information about the gameplay, game modes, graphics, teams, stadiums, players, and online play. One huge part of the leak was there is going to be a "Become A Legend" mode. This mode is like the "Be A Pro" mode in FIFA 08.
