DC Meetup Events: You're invited!

Wikipedia Loves Art! (February 27)

The Smithsonian American Art Museum will be holding a Wikipedia Loves Art! meetup on Friday, February 27 from 5-7 pm in the Kogod Courtyard. This is a photography event involving Wikipedians, along with Flickr users and others, to generate content for Wikipedia. Come share your experiences, meet the other teams, and take some photos! While RSVPing isn't necessary drop Jeff Gates an email if you're planning on attending so he can get a head count: gatesj (at) si.edu. There also is a signup list here, along with detailed information. The museum is conveniently located across from the Gallery Place-Chinatown metro station.

DC 6th Meetup (March 7)

The DC 6th meetup will take place on March 7th at Pizzeria Uno's at Union Station, one level up from the main floor. The meetup will start at 5pm, and people usually stick around there for several hours. You can RSVP at Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 6.

Time zones follow-up

I don't know if you remember this, but we discussed time zones on AN/I not so long ago. Turns out you were right: it was AM. It's a funny story: for some reason, my computer turns AM into PM, which I noticed only later; I hadn't slept much the day before, and hadn't been up for long before I logged in. In fact, I was upset over having slept what looked to be "around the clock" (well, not exactly, but thereabouts) - turns out I hadn't but I just had to make a fool of myself before getting it right. It's not just on AN/I: I was phoning people at the crack of dawn, thinking I had to do it before it got too late (I'm happy to say nobody answered), and wondering why it's so sunny come 8 o'clock wintertime :D. Anyway, that was really stupid, and I apologize if I dented your confidence in the Earth's rotation. Best, Dahn (talk) 04:19, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

X-D Oh, that's priceless. No, that's perfectly fine, although I was a bit confused at first. Best of luck getting your clocks set the right way! (by the way, it's currently 11:30 PM US Eastern, and 4:30 AM GMT ;-) ) Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:29, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. While I'm at it, could I ask you to remove the fake new messages bar at the top of your pages? WP:SMI does state that this should only really be done for testing purposes (April Fools' Day excepted, IMO). Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:16, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re archives

I have Merged Several of them together in order to keep the page and information simple and easy to find all in one page rather then look at 6 different

archives pages.

Your Status Template's Script Isn't Working

Hi there. I'm not sure if your status template is still "active", but I was hoping you could help me fix it on my userpage. The problem is that the script to automate the edit to change the template doesn't seem to work for me. The link on the status template simply gives me the edit box like normal; it doesn't even change the page's content or give a summary. See my monobook.js; it's the first one on the page. I'm running Firefox 3.0 (though it doesn't work on IE either), and I've already bypassed my cache. Thank you for any assistance you can give me. Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 03:13, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, you're not the only one who seems to be having this problem; you'll notice a few sections up the same thing happened to someone else. I can't for the life of me figure out what's causing it, but starting about a month ago, new installations don't seem to function for a while. It *should* work eventually, but in the meantime, I guess just keep going as normal. In consolation, you did do everything correctly; the template should work, and does for me, but why it's not for you is a mystery. Sorry I can't be of any help. :-( Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:46, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind if you (or I) set an expiry (6-12 months), just to get this out of WP:INDEFSEMI. I think it's important that these get reviewed on an annual or semi-annual basis. I actually thought about re-protecting this one but the majority of the vandalism was that single IP running rampant. –xeno (talk) 20:27, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that's fine. A lot of it was coming from the one IP, but I can't imagine that it'll slow down much, considering the article. Hersfold ([[User:::Hersfold/t|t]]/a/c) 20:29, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're probably right. Much obliged. –xeno (talk) 20:37, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would be fun to let it go unprotected every once in while. Who says registered users should have all the fun? Seriously, how about 3 months? Try it out and free to IPs for an afternoon. --KP Botany (talk) 05:57, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning the two week semi-protection, I would like to tell you that this page has been vandalized, at least, 26 times from the beginning of this year. Check the history of this page, you will find a lot of vandalism. A two week semi-protection will serve no good to the article, as there is no edit war going on. But it has been going on for a long time. Cheers, A elalaily (talk) 21:09, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Considering who the article's about, 26 times in two months isn't that bad. I do check the history of pages before I protect them; I don't believe there is much need for anything about two weeks at this point. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:31, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thank you. Cheers, A elalaily (talk) 22:10, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

Hi. I have tried to nominate myself for adminship a lot but it has not worked out well instruction-wise. It is just a mite too complicated for me to do it. May I have a little help please? Carabera (talk) 22:50, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can if you really want, but I would strongly recommend against it. You have less than 200 edits here, which is nowhere near enough to demonstrate the full understanding of policy and level of community trust needed to pass RfA. RfA candidates usually have several months, if not years, experience, and several thousand edits under their belts. I do appreciate your willingness to help, and will help you fill out the nomination form if you still want, but I don't think now would be the best time. Angel article

Was that a joke about my previous edit to the Angel article being unconstructive? Clearly it was the previous edit by Hfarn that was unconstructive, where he or she reverted a contribution by a new user claiming it was unsourced, when in fact the new user Angelwriter was making the block quote a more accurate reflection of the source provided. Im not LOLing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrthekid97 (talkcontribs)

I'm sorry, I only just noticed this message - I've had quite a few today and yours ended up buried amongst them.
When I came across that edit in Huggle, all I saw at first was your adding "your breasts dilated with joy", which isn't something you usually see added to articles. Looking into it further, a lot of what you were adding did seem to be unencyclopedic in tone, and consisting mostly of original research. Your edits since then look fine, so if you can provide some references for the content I'd reverted, that'd be great. Thanks! Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:04, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bring it up on the talk page; you'll need a strong consensus of the editors of that article to make the move. Once that has been formed, and you can clearly demonstrate that fact, place an {{editprotected}} notice on the article's talk page. I cannot and will not unilaterally make any such move myself, nor do I have any interest in getting involved in that. On an unrelated note, could you please check the "Raw signature" box in your preferences? What you have now is a bit of a code explosion. Thanks. Since this was deleted through what we call a "prod", or "proposed deletion", I'll go ahead and restore the page as these deletions can be contested by any editor. However, I would ask that you work on the article to make sure it meets our notability guidelines for music, as that is why it was deleted, and it may be nominated for deletion again should that not improve. Odd; I could have sworn I'd blocked the user, and when I checked one of the links in your report to verify and got an error message that the user wasn't registered, so I assumed that's why the bot hadn't removed the report. Oh well - the user is blocked now. Sorry for the confusion. Hersfold (t/a/c) 08:57, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LoveGame

Hey Hersfold, remember about Dance-pop? Well i believe he/she is back. Take a look at the contributions of this user. Though the user is not doing any bad edits now, there are instances of the same aggravasion and provoking. Please can you keep an eye? --Legolas (talktome) 06:57, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, my sock sense is tingling. You're welcome to file a WP:SPI report if you're concerned, though. Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:18, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. Maybe we should give him/her sometime to see whether he/she continues the same thing. I have a feeling that that previous block was for good. I do see a change in editing style, very mild aggravasions, and keeping good faith. A change has come to follow the consensus and not treat everything as own. Hence, though i am very sure this is our Dance-pop, but not an SPI at this stage. I want to see more of his work from now on and then later maybe. Cheers!!

P.S. The image at the edit talk page is simply HII-LL-AA-RRIOUS !! --Legolas (talktome) 05:59, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You left me this message on my talk page:

For this diff: [2]. I do hope you were being sarcastic (and in fact it's because I assume you were I downsized the fish), but please take some time to review WP:CANVASS. We greatly frown upon canvassing of any sort at AfD, regardless of its effectiveness, as it greatly undermines the usefulness of these debates. I appreciate your willingness to see that articles remain here, but it's much better to do that by spending time working on the article than by trying to convince random passerby that it's worth keeping as is. Thank you.

Yes, I was accused of canvassing, but I don't think I canvassed. To your other point about adding to the conent of the page, that is exactly what I feel I trying to do, contacting interested parties to see if they could opine and hopefully add content to the page. The page was only up for a few weeks. Perhaps people in his industry would contribute to the page if given more time to view it. Thanks Mwalla (talk) 16:41, 2 March 2009 (UTC)mwalla[reply]

Another question, reading the comments on the Articles for deletion page, it seems clear that the consensus feels that he does not qualify under the guidlines for acedemics. Perhaps he should be judged as a psychotherapist. Also, I tried to avoid distracting the discussion with attacks on other editors, but as the page goes to deletion review, it seems that perhaps I should have made the claim that the first nomination for deletion was motivated by someone who consistently accuses my of vandalism even when my edits are upheld by other admin. Finally, since the page was only in existence for two weeks, I do not feel that contacting five or six editors and informing them of the debate constitutes canvassing. It would be different if I had contacted my online friends and told them how to vote. That is not what I did. Clearly, I was being sarcastic when I mentioned that I have to do a better job canvassing. I have not even been an editor on wikipedia long enough to know that canvassing is a violation.Mwalla (talk) 13:58, 4 March 2009 (UTC)mwalla[reply]
