Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Does It Offend You, Yeah? is a British electronic rock band from Reading, Berkshire.

History

Does It Offend You, Yeah? formed in Reading, UK in 2007 and released their first album in Spring 2008. They were the ninth most listened to new band of 2008 on last.fm [1] They also made it onto the best alternative music list of 2008 on iTunes USA, along with Foals, MGMT and Santogold.[citation needed]

Does It Offend You, Yeah? have been compared by some to dance-oriented acts like Daft Punk.[2] Justice and Digitalism.[who?]. NME also compares them to bands like Muse due to their heavier, more "live" sound.[3] The group is known for their raucous live shows, which often end in stage diving and broken instruments.[2]

The band has appeared live on US television on shows such as The Jimmy Kimmel and Carson Daly and on British television programmes such as BBC's Sound and Channel 4's Transmission.

The band appeared alongside artists such as Pharrell Williams, Santogold, Julian Casablancas, MGMT and Karen O for Converse as part of The Converse Century Celebration advertising campaign.

Lead singer James Rushent co-produced The Prodigy's "Invaders Must Die" and their top ten hit " Omen". [4][failed verification] They have remixed songs for major acts such as Muse and Bloc Party.

The band are currently recording their follow-up to 2008's You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into, and have been posting regular updates via their Twitter Account. On March 1st the band announced the album's imminent completion, stating that "we are now into the last week of tracking. mixing the week after, then, emm, its all over. we are done." [5]

Tours

At the start of 2008 the band went on the NME Awards Tour, alongside acts such as The Ting Tings which took place at venues across the UK and Ireland.

They went on to open for Bloc Party[6][dead link] and Nine Inch Nails[7] on their respective 2008 North American tours.

In 2008 they completed a sold-out headline US tour which reached its climax at the historic Troubadour club in Hollywood. At the show lead singer James Rushent broke his leg during their last song, although he managed to hobble back on stage for an encore before being rushed to hospital.[8]

Does It Offend You, Yeah? were the opening act for The Prodigy on the last date of their UK 2008 club tour.

Band name

The band revealed the origins of their name as being from British sitcom The Office.

Everybody thinks the name is some kind of statement but it's a quote from David Brent in an episode of The Office. "When me and James Rushent first started writing music together we decided to put it up on MySpace. We needed a name to put as our profile name so just put what was the first thing that was said on TV, we switched it on and Ricky Gervais said "Does it offend you, yeah? My drinking?" so we just went with that. No thought went into it whatsoever.[9]

On Australian youth radio station Triple J on 1 October 2008 they voiced their annoyance at being asked questions in every interview regarding the band name in relation to The Office.[citation needed]
