FK Teplice is a Czech football club based in the city of Teplice (80 km north of Prague).
The club was founded after the World War II in 1945. The club advanced to the 1st Czechoslovak division in just 3 years after being founded and played mostly in the 1st and 2nd Czechoslovak division and after split of Czechoslovakia in the 1st and 2nd Czech division. After the Velvet Revolution and comeback of rich sponsor, Glaverbel (formerly Sklo Union), the club returned to the 1st division in 1996 and had a big success winning the Czech Football Cup and beating Feyenoord Rotterdam, 1. FC Kaiserslautern but were eventually defeated by Glasgow Celtic in the UEFA Cup.
Recent situation
The club's best recent position was second in the 1998/99 season. In the 2004/05 season the team ended third, with the same number of points as second-place Slavia Prague. The finish allowed them to play in the third round of the UEFA Cup qualification, which Teplice won against FC MTZ-RIPO Minsk from Belarus. In the first round of the UEFA Cup Teplice faced RCD Espanyol from Spain. They were eliminated after drawing 1:1 in the first leg and losing 0:2 in the second leg.
FK Teplice is considered to be one of the best Czech football clubs, and in the 2007/08 season the team finished in fifth place in the Czech Premier league, the Gambrinus Liga. The result earned them a berth in the second round of the 2008 Intertoto Cup. There, the lost 1:3 at home against Hungarian side Budapest Honvéd FC. They recovered with a 2:0 away win, but were still eliminated on away goals.
