Málaga Club de Fútbol B, S.A.D. is a Spanish football team based in Málaga, Andalusia. Currently in the Tercera División - Group 9, it is the reserve team of Málaga CF.
Reserve teams in the Spain play in the same football pyramid as their senior team rather than a separate league. However reserve teams cannot play in the same division as their senior team. Therefore the team is ineligible for promotion to La Liga, the division in which Málaga CF currently plays. Reserve teams are also no longer permitted to enter the Spanish Cup.
History
The team was originally formed in 1990 as Sociedad Deportiva Malacitana, the reserve team of Club Atlético Malagueño. When the latter became Málaga CF in 1994, it became Málaga CF B the following year.
The B team followed the senior one up the divisions and, at the end of 2002-03 was promoted to Segunda División, where it would last three seasons.
For the season 2009-10 onwards, the team was renamed Atlético Malagueño.[1]
