Native Languages As a child, I first learnt to speak Neapolitan (o nnapulitano), which is the Romance language spoken informally in the Southern Italian city of Naples. I'm still a native speaker of Neapolitan, because of my Italian parentage, and I use[d] it at home, from before I learned English. It doesn't matter where you were born at to determine whether you're a native speaker of a tongue, it matters what your parents/family speak/spoke to you. That's not the main issue, though, as the Neapolitan I speak is actually a regional dialect of the language, with fragments of the Romanesco spoken in Lazio, near to my ancestral hometowns. I will usually tell people that I speak Italian instead of Neapolitan, as very few people out here have heard of Neapolitan. I started speaking English at roughly five years old, and I picked up on it early. Because I live in America, though, I can understand and speak basic Spanish, though I'm not a native speaker of that. I used to take French in school though, so I'm equally able in that language, too.
Languages I'm [Kind-of] Learning/Researching Currently, I'm teaching myself many languages, but a little of each language. The one of which I'm putting the most attention to is probably the Manx language (yn Ghaelg in Manx) (Manx Wikipedia [1]), spoken in the Isle of Man, a petite, serene island with a humble population of about 80,000 civilians. (many Americans don't know what or where it's at, which is more of a relief to the Reiltys Ellan Vannin (Isle of Man Government Site [2])) If you're Irish or Scottish, you may be acquainted or even may speak Manx's sister languages or Manx itself, if you're Manx. As a consequence, I can answer to a common informal salute in the language. As I learn a bit of many languages, I may develop an interest in studying that language for a while. I already compiled a collection of Wikipedia articles on the Italian dialects, or, in its true phrase, languages of Italy, and one on the Dutch dialects. I'm currently reviewing what are known as les langues d'oïl, the group of languages from which Gallo, Picard, Norman, and ultimately French itself took root from. Next I'll compile articles on the Spanish dialects. Any suggestions? Just discuss it with me.
