2009 VMA Kanye West Incident

ABC's Terry Moran reported that President Obama referred to Kanye West as a "jackass" in an "off the record" interview. I think it's worthy of noting alongside the other celebrity reaction. I support Kanye. This girl is a waste of life and her songs are terrible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.97.119.249 (talk) 15:30, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Well..I will say this. I'm the very first person to add this to Wikipedia, you can check the history of the Taylor Swift page, which was the first place it appeared in. I totally support Taylor Swift. Kanye West shouldn't have discriminated her just because she's young, white, and sings country. Alot of people online are saying that race has nothing to do with this, and im suspecting that alot of those people are black. Race has alot to do with this unfortunately. Kanye has done this alot, like most of you know, and it's been against white people in support of other black artists, including himself. I wish people would stop saying that race has nothing to do with it. Froggy26rk (talk) 08:32, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

it should be 12

"Teardrops On My Guitar"

This song was inspired by a true event during Taylor's time in high school. She liked a guy named "Drew Hardwick", who only saw Taylor as a friend and a go-to person for advice about his relationship with his current girlfriend.

This can be confirmed by Taylor herself in this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3lyBXrzR3s —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lefty04628 (talkcontribs) 19:38, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any reason the name Drew Hardwick is in quotation marks? Holford (talk) 00:30, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Some people" just "like" to "overuse" "quotation marks" for "no" reason. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 00:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Because of the use-mention distinction - the sentence is about the name "Drew Hardwick," not the person Drew Hardwick.VoluntarySlave (talk) 00:51, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to get into an edit war over this. The sentence and the song are about a person, Drew Hardwick. Neither are not about the name Drew Hardwick. To say that he has a particular name is simply to identify that particular person. It makes no sense to say that it is about the name. You can have a song about a name, e.g. "A Boy Named Sue" by Johnny Cash (though even this could arguably be said to be about the person and not the name), but this is not an example of that. Holford (talk) 12:31, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree the song is about the person, but the sentence as currently structured is about the fact that the person in question has a particular name, namely, "Drew Hardwick." To write "The song is about a person named Drew Hardwick" would be incorrect, because it states that Drew Hardwick is his own name; obviously that's wrong, because Drew Hardwick is a person, not a name. We could say "The song is about Drew Hardwick," but I kind of feel phrasing it that way implies that we expect people to know who Drew Hardwick is. Actually, I don't know if we need to mention the person's name explicitly at all. VoluntarySlave (talk) 17:12, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am completely confused by the quotation marks as they stand. If I see a proper name in quotes like this, my assumption would be that the song is about a literal real-life person Taylor Swift knew and the name in quotations was a pseudonym she used to protect his identity. If the song is actually about a guy by the name of Drew Hardwick, then it doesn't need quotation marks. However, I agree with VoluntarySlave that I don't see the point in actually NAMING the person especially since there's no notability to him that I can see. It's not like, say, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" which George Jones wrote it about Tammy Wynette, who has notability in being a famous country musician in her own right as well as the notability of being Jones' ex-wife. Hardwick is just a high school crush from what I can tell here. Correct me on this if I'm wrong. GBrady (talk) 17:29, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Opinionated user

Does anyone have any idea who the user is that keeps adding vandalism to Taylor Swift's article. When I saw this article, this genius user wrotr profanity at the bottom of her page. They also wrote on the discography section; "to view an exhaustive list of her discography", which was so opinionated. This is an encyclopedia, if you can't follow the rules, don't write for us! Will someone who has the authority to, block this user, maybe they will learn a lesson from this. Dottiewest1fan (talk) 23:16, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Exhaustive" is a synonym for "complete". It doesn't mean anything negative. I've changed it to "complete" to avoid any confusion. Kaldari (talk) 18:49, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Factual Error

In the article it says that LeAnn Rimes is Taylor Swift's Grandmother. This is impossible due to multiple things: Firstly, LeAnn Rimes is 25 years old and secondly she has no kids, let alone grand kids. The article is semi-protected, so I can't edit it, someone else should fix that.

P.S. The source cited for this error has no evidence to support the claim. All the source says is: "It seems fitting that Taylor's first idol in country music was LeAnn Rimes. "I knew every song she ever sang," she says. LeAnn at the time was 14 years old, just starting her career." (Source 2 on Taylor Swift Wiki)

27-second breakup

On 11/11/08, Taylor tells Ellen on the Ellen Degeneres show that Joe Jonas broke up with her in 25 seconds over the phone, not in 27 seconds, as currently stated in the "personal life" section of this post. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elba827 (talkcontribs) 15:37, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First she said "When I find that person that is right for me, he'll be wonderful and when I look at that person, I won't even remember the boy that broke up with me in 25 seconds over the phone" Then she said "I looked at the call log and it said 27 seconds". So she probably rounded it down first. In all the articles and stuff, it says 27 seconds. Greenguitar3 (talk) 18:17, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bias

Some of these sentences don't sound neutral. For example "She boldly handed this tape to receptionists at every label on Music Row," "her rendition of the national anthem completely moved the crowd," etc. That sounds like it came from a fan writing about her. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.61.115.88 (talk) 03:27, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

editing needed

Why is the guitar necessary in the part about early life also this sentence is structured horribly 'Taylor Swift was born in Reading, Pennsylvania and lives with her parents, Scott and Andrea, and her brother, Austin,[1] in Nashville, Tennessee. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.234.168.147 (talk) 01:59, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the sentence about where she was born and with whom she lives. It is clear and grammatical. Your comments above, however, are ungrammatical. Ward3001 (talk) 23:14, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It says her grandmother is LeAnn Rhimes....This is NOT true (unless by some miracle a 26 year old is the grandmother of a 19 year old, that would be quite impressive. She was one of her biggest Role Models! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.141.129.33 (talk) 20:47, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is incredible how people fail to read. You're the second person (at least) to read the information about Rimes incorrectly. It says: "Swift's singing influences include her grandmother and LeAnn Rimes" (bold added). Ward3001 (talk) 23:14, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Piano?

In the artist information box, piano is listed as one of her instruments. I have never seen Swift playing piano while performing. If anyone has a picture or video clip please post it here; or we have to delete piano out of her instruments.

p.s. In a radio talk with Tim McGraw (Taylor Swift (Deluxe Edition) album, Track 15: Taylor's 1st Phone Call With Tim McGraw), she implied that she uses piano when writing songs. However it seems that she never plays a piano live. Does this count? Fa2f (talk) 04:35, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Body by Milk

I'm not sure that this is a "charitable" work. I'm not saying it is an unworthy activity, but I can't find any indication that celebrities are not paid for their endorsements. If they are paid, it's not charitable. Does anyone have information that I don't know about? Ward3001 (talk) 19:34, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that endorsing a commercial product does not qualify as philanthropy. The "Body by Milk" campaign was Initiated by MilkPEP. MilkPEP's own words: "The Milk Processor Education Program (MilkPEP), Washington, D.C., is funded by the nation's milk processors, who are committed to increasing fluid milk consumption. MilkPEP activities are led by a 15-member board, which is monitored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service." Please note that the nation's milk processors do not claim to be "committed" to the anything other than "increased...consumption".[1] Daniel Jansen (talk) 01:27, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SNL

May want to add that she performed the songs "Love Story" and "Forever and Always" on her SNL appearance.Fewwiggle (talk) 21:05, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's too much detail for this bio page. It's included on the SNL page. I just pipelinked the SNL mention to that specific page. We can't add every song performed in live performances mentioned in the article. Ward3001 (talk) 21:17, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Taylor's Real Age

Her age is being called into question along with the likes of Akon, J.Lo, and a few others. Her birth date is listed as 1989, but some say she might be in her mid-20s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.35.75.64 (talk) 04:54, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Some say" could apply to any one of six billion people on the planet Earth. Do you have a reliable source (and that does not include tabloids, blogs, or chat pages). Something like the New York Times would be nice. Otherwise, please drop it. Ward3001 (talk) 16:09, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Add More to Taylor's Filmography Chart

You need to add more to the flimography chart:

 Title: Role:

Ellen DeGeneres Show Herself Grammy Nominations Herself Dick Clark's Rockin' New Tears Eve Herself CSI TBA

And there are more too but I can't list them all. (96.249.232.61 (talk) 22:51, 28 January 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Every television appearance does not go into a filmography. Some bio pages don't include any TV appearances, only film. But if they are included, they need to be more than just an appearance or performance. If we include every TV appearance in articles, the filmography sections could be far too huge for a typical Wikipedia article. Ward3001 (talk) 23:02, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to what Ward3001 said, filmography and television appearences are two different things. Kb3mlmsk (talk) 16:23, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An email to you is original research and strictly forbidden as a source by Wikipedia policy. I could claim he sent me an email saying she plays a broom, but that doesn't mean it's true. Once again, the threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth, and that means verifiable by anyone, not just you. Ward3001 (talk) 00:17, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The text in the box is as follows:

Badagnani (talk) 00:55, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That looks like a good source to me, but she uses several guitars, according to the source. We don't need to name every model she uses. I would say name the two identified in the source as the main ones (and "model 914ce" is not one of them), unless you get consensus here to include all of them. Ward3001 (talk) 01:09, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Her primary guitar seems to be the koa one. Badagnani (talk) 01:41, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Which is named in the article now, so need for changes, right? Ward3001 (talk) 02:15, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Third, the source says "yesterday I wondered out loud if Taylor Swift and T-Pain were recording a track together, but now it appears that a song might not have necessarily been their main objective". IMDB is not always accurate. Anyone with an account can go on and change things. Greenguitar3 (talk) 16:06, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

12 String Guitar

In the article it says that "Swift started writing songs and playing 12-string guitar when she was 12" but there is no evidence to show that this is true. I'm pretty sure that she learned to play a 6 string guitar not 12 string. Greenguitar3 (talk) 14:51, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Song List

There really should be a list of her songs added to the page so it isn't necessary to do a search on here for them. 208.111.243.55 (talk) 01:57, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

She is coming out with six new songs reference her Myspace blog. http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=27612962&blogId=508937979

Queen of Country-Pop music

is she the Queen of Country-Pop music? or can't we call her like that?-- ·.·´¯`·.·ŜØŁҒ€Ө·.·´¯`·.· °º¤ø,¸ŁĨβЭЯŦĂĐ Ұ ĴŮŚŢĬÇÏÁ°º¤ø,¸ 16:31, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is no evidence that people call her Queen of Country-Pop... And her music genre is Country not Country-pop. And I don't think the title of "Queen of Country-Pop" exists.. Greenguitar3 (talk) 01:27, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • The folks over at AllMusic seem to think her style is country pop. From their review of Fearless: "Like many country-pop albums of the 2000s, the pop heavily outweighs the country". They list one of her styles as "country pop" in her bio. Niteshift36 (talk) 06:13, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

VMA Awards incident

This article mentions that Beyonce was nominated for the 'Best Female Video' award. This is not true. Beyonce was not nominated in this category.Semajws (talk) 19:45, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the above post. No Beyonce was not nominated for the 'Best Female Video' award. The nominees are Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga and Pink. See attached link. http://www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2009/best-female-video Amadao (talk) 03:16, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is. She was nominated for her music video "Single Ladies" that's why when Taylor Swift won, Kanye West grabbed the mic and said Beyonce's video was "one of the best videos of all time". Greenguitar3 (talk) 19:48, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's not true. Beyonce was nominated for (and won) in the category 'Video of the Year.' Taylor Swift was nominated for (and won) in the category 'Best Female Video.' The two are two separate awards, and the distinction is important because Kanye wasn't trying to say that Taylor didn't deserve the award; he was simply acknowledging (in his weird way) that he thought Beyonce's video was great. - 21:22 14 Sept. 2009

About above comment, who wrote that?, that's so unnaceptable for wikipedia! respect wikipedia! Yes, it's true. If u can remember, beyonce really was nominated for, and another thing, check out 2009 VMA article here in Wikipedia and u'll find that we're right n u're wrong, sorry but that's true.-- ·.·´¯`·.·ŜØŁҒ€Ө·.·´¯`·.· °º¤ø,¸ŁĨβЭЯŦĂĐ Ұ ĴŮŚŢĬÇÏÁ°º¤ø,¸ 03:48, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While the MTV site suggests Beyonce wasn't nominated, many sources suggest she was. At first I wondered if they were mistaken but in fact if you look at the comments here [2] it appears it's definite she was nominated and this is clear if you watch the award show. I presume the MTV site is mistaken or perhaps it was removed for some reason relating to this controversy. Regardless while we probably can't source things to the comment section even of a newspaper blog and by the blog owner, we can source, as we should, to all the secondary sources which do say she was nominated Nil Einne (talk) 14:34, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just to clarify for anyone who is unsure, Beyonce was nominated for Best Female Video. And the MTV site does list her. Cliff smith talk 22:37, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick note, the site didn't list her earlier hence the earlier confusion from multiple sources. Unfortunately I didn't take a webcite archive so can't prove this but there was definitely only 5 videos listed before Nil Einne (talk) 14:44, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

philanthropy

I went ahead and moved a big section of philanthropy to personal life. Business agreements and corporate endorsements are not philanthropy. In fact, they don't belong under personal life either. Perhaps they don't even qualify as being important enough to warrant space in an encyclopedia article.    Jhonka 05:48, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heritage

hey! Does anyone know Taylor's heritage? I've heard she's of Irish descent, but has that been confirmed?

Thanks~
