Timiskaming Square is a shopping mall in the Dymond area of the city of Temiskaming Shores, Ontario, Canada. Its anchor stores are Zellers, Food Basics and Hart. The mall has 164,142 sq. ft. (15,249 m²) of space.
It is owned by RioCan and was very popular during the 1980s, contributing to the decline of the downtown businesses of Haileybury, and to a lesser extent, New Liskeard. Since then, large Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire stores have been built nearby, resulting in a decline in mall business.
The grocery store had been a Loeb store until 2007, when a major roof failure forced its closure. The store was reopened as Food Basics.
Following Zellers' acquisition of Kmart Canada in 1998, the mall's Kmart store was converted to a Zellers. Timiskaming Square already had a Zellers store, resulting in the mall having 2 Zellers anchor stores. This uncommon setup continued until 2009, when one store was closed; Hart opened a new store in the former Zellers location.
A large proportion of the mall's customers are from nearby Quebec, which is a short drive away on Highway 65 East.
During the Sunday shopping debate, the shopping centre was cited as one of the primary reasons the local representative voted in favour of the bill.[1]
