Samir or Sameer is a male given name in South Asia, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean.

Etymology

Two very different and unrelated etymologies exist:

  • In Sanskrit, Sameer (Devanagari: समीर) means wind or breeze.
  • In Arabic Samīr سمير means companion or friend.

Variations

Variants of the name can have different pronunciations, as in the Indian Sameer, Arab Samir, Bangla Shomir, Bosnian Semir, Turkish Semih and so on. yo mama
