Jona Viray

Jonalyn Bubbles Bula (born November 15, 1989 in San Mateo, Rizal, Philippines) is a Filipina singer noted for her vocal range, belting prowess and the ability to sing in the whistle register.[1] She is classified as a Spinto Coloratura Soprano and is noted for giving a soulful dramatic effect to the songs she sing.[2] She has been credited to having more than four-octave range.[3]

She was the first ever Pinoy Pop Superstar Grand Champion (others were Maricris Garcia & Gerald Santos).[4]

Biography

Born on November 15, 1989, Jonalyn is the eldest of 4 children from San Mateo, Rizal. She's start joining singing contest in her early age. She has won first runner-up in "Birit Bulilit" of IBC-13 as a child and in "MTB Teen Pop Star." Her winning piece was Mariah Carey’s Never Too Far.

The Early Years

Viray released her debut album On My Own in 2005. She competed at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Hollywood and was awarded the Industry Award Female Vocal Solo for winning five gold medals. The five golds came from the categories Broadway, Original, Pop, R&B and Variety. Jonalyn was also awarded "Overall Champion Female Solo" in Broadway, Pop and Original.[5]

She was often compared to her fellow singer Sarah Geronimo because of the fact that they came from rival show and that they are just of the same ages. Her famous whistle register is one of her advantages against others and her belting prowess is often compared to that of Sheryn Regis's.

She also sing the soprano role in La Diva and often given the hardest part considering that she has the widest range of the three and her versatility is incomparable.

Voice

She has been credited to having a four-octave vocal range and is classified as a Spinto Soprano with Coloratura abilities, she is also able to sing in the whistle register. It has aslo been noticed that she gives a soulful, dramatic effect to the songs she sing.

Viray admits that she has a big crush on heartthrob Dennis Trillo and dreams of having him as partner for her last dance at her debut[12].
