Template:Spanish name 2 Marcos Alonso Imaz (born 16 April 1933 in Santander, Cantabria), nicknamed Marquitos, is a former Spanish footballer, who played as a defender.

He was best known for his participation in Real Madrid's five European Cup conquests, mainly in the 50's.

Football career

During his career, Marquitos played for Racing de Santander, Real Madrid, Hércules CF, Real Murcia, Calvo Sotelo and Toluca de Santander. With the Merengues, he won six leagues and five European Cups: in the 1955–56 edition, he scored a rare goal as he equalized 3–3 against Stade Reims, in an eventual 4–3 success.

From 1955 to 1960, Marquitos earned two caps for Spain, in as much friendlies.

Alonso's son, Marcos, is also a former footballer, and a coach; he represented, with success, Atlético Madrid, FC Barcelona and Spain - amongst others. His grandson, Marcos Alonso Mendoza, plays for in Real Madrid's reserve team.[1]
