The School of Information Studies (SOIS) is an academic unit of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. It offers a Bachelor of Science in Information Resources, a Master of Library and Information Science, and a Doctoral program in Information Studies. It also offers certificate programs in school library media, archives, and records administration.
SOIS also houses UWM's Center for Information Policy Research, and has its own technological support staff (SOIS Tech) that is separate from University Information Technology Services (UITS).
Rankings and recognition
The school was ranked 16th nationally by the US News & World Report in 2007. [1] Its Archives and Preservation program was nationally ranked the 9th by US News & World Report in 2009. [2]
Based on the Thomson Reuters University/Institutional Science Indicators, ScienceWatch ranked SOIS No.1 nationally among schools of library and information science for research productivity in 2008.[3][4]
In 2009, UNESCO gave SOIS recognition for its "ongoing role in promoting e-government and information ethics initiatives in Africa".[5][6]
