Ostankino Tower is now taller than CN Tower.

No, the Ostankino Tower is not the tallest free-standing structure in the world, the antenna extension according to the best available sources was and/or is just a proposal and has yet to actually happen. According to Ostankino Tower's official website, emporis.com and skyscraperpage.com the tower is still 540 meters and the CN Tower is still the tallest free-standing structure.

In 2003 certain websites claimed that the Ostankino Tower's antenna had been extended, making the overall height 1894ft. A new TV transmission antenna had been fitted (Nov 2003; an American company "Harris" aerial) but the height of the spire had NOT been increased. The confusion arose because there had been tentative plans to extend the spire while fitting new aerials as part of the rebuild plans following the fire.

These plans are still in progress and seem to have secured funding as part of future digital TV transmission antenna extensions to the spire. In 2007 it is planned for the tower to stand

1863ft. An aerial upgrade and antenna extension had been planned as far back as the year 1994 (well before Aug 2000 fire) to a height of 1845ft. That plan was not financially viable then, but current plans appear to be realistic.

With the recent fire, the newspaper Vzglyad (Sight) has reported the tower's height as 562 m, though makes no claim about it being the world's tallest free-standing structure. Regarding the tower's own website, it is out of date anyway, as it still states that the observation decks and restaurant are closed, although they were reopened in 2005. -Kain 09:21, 1 June 2007 (UTC) [1][reply]

Moscow Beauty?

I lived near this tower for 22 years (and worked in TV centre nearby for some time) - and never heard someone call it "Moscow Beauty". Not people, not the media, not in the books. Should this be removed? Dick Stevens 10:13, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely, unless somebody provides some evidence. See Wikipedia:Citing sources -- H005 10:18, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recentism

I tagged the Accidents section for recentism, because it does not mention the 1975 fire. Please add the relevant information, with citations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pwnage8 (talkcontribs) 03:07, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please verify facts on this article

I've noticed that the anonymous user 96.242.33.206 has graced several articles with random acts of vandalism. I'm a little short on time right now, but verifying the correct information on those other articles was quite straightforward, so I'm pretty sure I was able to undo this user's vandalism on those articles only. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about this tower to fix the random edits that have occurred.

Anyway, I just want to let you (someone knowledgeable) know that the information on this article may now be inaccurate due to the edits of this user (he/she changed the heights and made other subtle edits.) You're probably going to have to sift through the article history to see exactly what changed. The problem is further complicated by the fact that other users have made (probably legitimate) edits which are interspersed with this user's edits.

Thanks, 76.232.10.138 (talk) 11:31, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AM-Stations?

There is no antenna for AM-broadcasting at Ostankino tower! These stations uses other sites, e.g. Taldom transmitter!
